Thinking about fishing marine creek soon on the yak but have never fished it and want to get some helpful tips!

I always did best out there super early like before the sun came up flipping a jig into the grass patches around the bank on the east side. Never been able to get a deep bite going. I just don't think there are that many fish....lol

+1 I might be crazy but I would fish it at night on this full moon. You are likely to hear some gunshots in the distant. It's not much to look at, but at night I did much better.

I would personally launch, fish the dam for 100 yards, then go-to the reeds by the ski jump and spot check them, and adjust. Just fish sloooooooooow, and don't be afraid to throw a big bait.

Here is a clip of some unexpected things I experienced. A mag dump, and a catfish.

I just moved from Fort Worth and used to fish this lake almost weekly. Summertime is the best time out here and we are reaching the end of their deep staging, but I found that was your best bet to catch the most fish and the biggest, and there are some big ones in there. I'm not going to give out exact spots but there are two major "humps" and plenty of ledges that will produce plenty of fish ranging for 8' to 20' deep. I was most successful with a drop shot or Carolina rig out there. 2 of my 4 DD came from this lake in the middle of summer and there is know telling how many 7+ pound fish I have gotten over the rail on this spot. When fishing the humps, if you graph them on top, it is go time and you are about to catch 1 fish after another. If the fish are staged on the side of the humps, you will still pick them off from time to time but the fishing will be slower.

You can catch fish along the banks, but I can tell you that I do not spend any time within 30 yards of the banks unless its at the damn or right around the spawn. Sometimes I will power pole down close to the bank, but that is to turn around and cast out on ledges and work the baits back up them for the suspended fish on the edge.

Spend some time on your electronics, look at the surrounding land and figure out where under water contours should be. You find them and you will find the fish. It's not too hard as the lake is not that big.

Don't leave anything valuable in your truck. Check your prop for fishing line after you get home. Expect people to be fishing and swimming at ramp and not move unless you ask them.

I use the ramp on the west side. It’s not as steep as the ramp on the east side and easier to get my kayak in and out of the bed of my truck. It’s also much wider, so I can take my time and not hold other people up. That ramp also is usually more crowded with people swimming or parking there to use the trail, which I like because I feel like it’s going to be less likely people are breaking into cars with all the people around. I’ve never felt unsafe there or had my vehicle messed with. I know it used to be an issue 5-10 years ago, but they’ve done a lot to improve the area around the lake and opened the ramp on the west side, which is in a decent neighborhood.

There are some good tips here already. It’s not a shallow fishing lake. It’s also not very big, but it has several types of structure to fish. Ledges, one huge point, humps a road bed and the damn are probably your best bet. You might pick off some dinks on the bank, but if you have a graph, spend your time off shore/deeper.

Drop shot is effective there, deep cranks are effective and I’m sure Carolina rig works, I’ve just never fished it. There are some big fish, but having a day where you catch a lot of fish, especially from a kayak, can be few and far between. Also, a south wind can make it pretty rough out there for a kayak, so keep that in mind. Good luck!
