Ray Roberts boat launch info needed.. - 08/07/22 12:59 AM

I Guess I'm confused on how to pay for the launch. I would like to launch at Jordan or Buck creek and from what I understand there is no pay station? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I've never fished Ray Roberts before and am not sure what the procedure is...Any advice would be appreciated..

You pay online at TPWD and select Isle Du Bois or Johnson Branch for the reservation. If you have a State Park Pass it is included, but you still have to get the reservation and print it.

There is a pay station at the bottom of the stairs from the parking lot at Buck. Put you $ in the envelope and the receipt on the window or dash. I think it’s $7.

I have a state pass but see people use it all the time.

Even with a state park pass you still have to go online and print for entrance?

Technically, yes. Though I have hung my pass in the window with the bar code out like we used to do with the paper slotted hang tags and haven't received negative feedback. I put it in a clear plastic sleeve lanyard...

There is a self pay station at both Jordan and Buck. $7 Per PERSON. As mentioned previously, it’s by the actual ramp at buck and by the restroom at Jordan.

If you have a state park pass just fill out one of the envelopes and keep it in your truck. Toss it on the dash each time you go and you don’t have to mess with printing a new pass each time.

I don’t fish RR but if I read this right, you have to make a reservation to use the ramps.
Is that correct?

No, not correct. Show up and pay at the pay station or pay online and your good at those two ramps.

Isle De Bois and Johnson have pay windows when you enter.

Thanks for the info guys. The information I had was incorrect in they said there was NO pay station at Jordan but that was incorrect, as stated above you can pay the $7 fee and launch. Launching went fine but I quickly realized I didn't have a clue where it was safe to run so just stuck fairly close to the launch to fish and crapped out. Wind picked up, lake got choppy so had to just jump on plane and go for it back to the launch. Guess I need toi hire a guide and learn the basics of safely navigating this lake....

Running the main body of Roberts is easy. South of the big island on the east side (Wolf) all the way around to the bridge on the west, you're good. You can run into Isle du Bois around by the dam, Johnson, Pond and Spring creeks all just fine. Once you hit a set of marker poles, idle. Look out for long shallow points on your graph in the main lake, but you have lots of fishable water near this open water stuff.

There is good fishing up amongst the timber, so if you want to explore, idle and mark sections of trail, but be extremely careful of changing water levels and stay right on your trails as you can get BAD in a hurry!

Gents...there's one more cool thing that you can do.

If you buy your pass at the state park front office at Isle Du Bois, ask for the hang tag.

If you have the hang tag, you simply place your state park pass in the slot, hang the tag from the rearview and go fishing. There's no need to fiddle with the envelope. Been doing this for years now.

So you have many options to get in.

State Parks fill up quickly during the weekends of the summer, that's why reservations are needed.

For the smaller ramps, Buck / Jordan / Park / Sanger, they all have pay boxes next to the welcome signs. You will need to pay the $7 per person, fill in the envelope, then tear off your tag and hang on your windshield.

Good to hear they have them again. The last two times I got my pass they told me they weren't going to get anymore because too many passes were melting in the heat, and they didn't want them hanging. I have my own work around, but I may just tape my pass to the back of my COE pass and have it all in one! roflmao

yes this! Only difference is if you use a pass at Johnson Branch or IDB during their hours of operation you have to stop and get the printed receipt at the office. No reservations required to launch a boat.

The TPWD pass is such a good deal and pays for itself pretty quickly. I went to Longhorn Cavern State Park near Burnet recently. Great experience, by the way. Anyway, entrance to the park was free but my TPWD card got me 10% off for the tickets to the cavern tour.

Not at Ray Roberts, just get a hanger at the main office and hang your park pass on your rear view window so the bar code is visible and you are good to go. It has been that way for years except during the Wuhan flu era.
