Humminbird Helix 9 trouble shooting

Humminbird Helix 9 trouble shooting - 03/21/22 04:30 PM

This all of a sudden showed up on my Helix unit - don't recall hitting anything abnormally hard, so I don't think it's due to damage. But I could be wrong I guess? But as you can see - the depth read out isn't correct and the top of the water column is all messed up. The discrepancy with the Livescope is clear. It was working just fine before...plus I normally use the Helix for mapping exclusively anyway so not in a rush to fix anything. Any ideas though?

How does the transducer look? Is it still level and tight? I had a friend that said his Humminbird quit working and when I looked at it, it was kicked up.

The unit is running off the built-in transducer of the trolling motor (ultrex)

The unit is picking up the interference as the bottom. It can do that with heavy shad sometimes. It looks like something got off. If you unplug the transducer and plug it back in, it may fix itself. Otherwise try resetting the unit to defaults. Also check to make sure the correct transducer is selected.

Yeah…I tried turning off/on and restoring factory defaults. That wasn’t it.
As far as the interference…this happened on two different bodies of water. Which lead me to believe it was something less obvious. Started doing that at one lake Saturday and went to a different lake Sunday - it never got right in between.

By interference, I mean it could be something from the boat... check those cable connections at the TM head and at the unit.

It looks like you have an Ultrex from what I can see in the photo. There is a fuse inside the head of the trolling motor that’s connected to a bonding wire. If the fuse blows, it can cause interference. I can’t remember for sure, but I believe it is a 3 amp fuse.
