I do like the green Stren for spinning reels.

I use some clear Stren, not clear blue though.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/20/22 08:38 PM
I keep going back to the clear blue fluorescent. I’ll try other lines from time to time, but it seems like I always end up with stren loaded back up

Nice supple line, a bit too stretchy for my bass fishing preferences.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/20/22 09:06 PM
Its a good line to use on crankbaits because it gives some and will not snap into like a fluorocarbon line will. Back 20+ years ago all I used was Stren, I might use some now but just for the purpose of leaders.
Then again I am not a fan of fluorocarbon, I have just lost way too many fish using it and the memory is terrible. Last year I tried co-polymer and wasn't all that impressed. Overall I am happier and feel more confident using straight monofilament line.

Best line made.

I still use a lot of Stren in the clear blue fluorescent. Monofilament has its applications that are just better than the others.

14# clear is all I use. Not lost a fish.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/20/22 09:42 PM
I don't use it often but I do have a bulk spool of clear blue stren 14lb that I swear is just as strong as any other 17-20 lb test I've bought.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/20/22 09:51 PM
I've been using it (10#) for jerk baits. Most of my jerk bait fishing is done in fairly shallow water. Helps me see the strike better.

Texas waters are more green than blue. That's my justification, and I'm sticking to it. Even if I look like the idiot I am!

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/21/22 02:47 AM
Stren is the only line I use, but I prefer the clear Fluorocarbon (Fluorocast).

As good as it gets for “seeing” a bite.

I use it for night fishing with a black light, but never in daytime.

A couple of the bigger catfish caught using 14# clear Stren.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/21/22 04:59 PM
I used it a lot back in the 80's, it was the only thing I'd use. I always had problems with knots pulling out and switched to Berkley products and a line that Bagley's sold for a while. Eventually I started using Bass Pro Shops Excel mono. It by far was the best I had ever loaded on a reel. Right now I'm running Berkley again. Vanish, XL, XT, and Big Game in various sizes. When I started fishing again it was nearly impossible to find any BPS Excel or I'd be running that, at least where I need monofilament.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/21/22 11:12 PM
I dont use Stren blue but I do use Berkley XL fluorescent blue when fishing for suspended fish on a slack line.
Few years ago I had another forum member in the boat with me and he was bragging about how great his flurocarbon was. I told him its going to be worthless once we move out deep because he wont be able to see the bite the way we were planning on fishing. I picked up my rod with XL blue on it and put over 30 bass in the boat in a couple of hours. He caught 1 using the same bait because he couldnt see the line jump and twitch when he got bit. Next trip he had XL blue on one of his rods. LOL

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 01/22/22 02:19 AM
if your a line watcher, high-viz clear blue is the ticket, especially in stained water...don't care for it in the gin clear water we have in these rocky reservoirs, but give me grass, stained water game on...it is stretchy, but i have a violent hook set and the stretch helps absorb that shock... so if the application is right - thumbs up... that's why I have close to 30 rigged rods in the boat...
Back in the day my favorite STREN line was Yellow. That way when you got tangled up with the other idiots on the cattle boat or fishing pier you could cut all the other lines except yours!

*For the record, I use Stren Blue and Power Pro for my bass stuff and Big Game for my carp and catfish rods. Been very happy with all of those.

McCoy’s Mean Green 15 lb. Switched 3 years ago from Berkeley XT Green and have never looked back. Toughest mono I have ever used. Very little memory, and just enough stretch. All my rods have it.

14# clear is all I use. Not lost a fish.
That is what I used all the time many years ago with good luck. I started using Trilene Big Game line in the 1990's. I think I changed because the BG line was cheaper but very strong.

Re: Clear Blue Stren......poll - 03/03/22 08:15 PM
So I bought some 17 lb. in blue fluorescent. First Stren that I've purchased since the 90s.
I was fishing some shallow flats yesterday with a senko type bait. Fishing slowly as season and water temp dictated.
Caught a lot of fish but the biggest struck the bait so subtly that I did not feel anything.
I did notice the lure seemed to have found some hydrilla to hang up in so I gently lifted the rod.
I could see that glowing line inching toward me, straight on.
Knowing that hydrilla is not mobile, I reared back and old fatty was there.
7.14
I am convinced that I would not have been able to see my usual low viz mono in that situation.
Stren has a place and time.

all I use is big game 15# green/clear and p line copolymer in 15#, have 2 reels with braid but don't throw it much.
we were using p line cxx 20# for tarpon in costa rica, long bimini with 100# and hold on.
great lines.
I quit using it about 3 decades ago because I couldn't get it to hold a knot. I use mostly Berkley and Bass Pro lines.

Had a friend who fished with 30 stren gold he caught a lot of dd bass.
He didn’t fish tournaments but was a trophy fisherman and he had a room full of real fish mounted no replicas.
Personally I don’t think line visibility has any effect on bass .
Oh he was a line watcher and a good one.
