Winnsboro,Holbrook or Quitman - 01/15/22 06:50 PM

If you were going to go to any of these lakes for bass in next week or so, which fishes better now and how would you approach it? Thanks in advance.

This would be my choice as well. I would add Hawkins to the list but it has been drawn down to facilitate homeowner dock repair (at least that's what I was told).

It has. It is severe feet low, but it’s concentrated the fish very well.

Ramp at the Italian restaurant does not look useable, at least for a big boat.

I fished Holbrook quite a bit last year and boated a few fish and had some really good days and some not so great days but overall I love it. It is a really good lake if you like jig fishing. I haven't been on the others yet.

Holbrook, a couple years ago I watched a guy fishing out of a paddle boat, like you rent at the beach, catch a #10 bass fishing
in front of a boat dock just across from the ramp...some one said the reeds are gone, ..but I really like that little lake on weekdays..

fish

99% of the reeds (bullrushes) in the main lake are gone. The reeds (saw grass) in the north end are fine and unaffected by whatever is going on.

I learned something about Holbrook last year running my fish finder out of my jon boat around the lower end of the lake. On the Navionics website in the chart plotter section you can pull up a topographical map of the lake. On that map they have fishing spots marked. Most if not all of those spots are manmade fishing structures probably made of of pvc pipe or something like that and there are several of them. I caught a few fish off one of them. That lake is well managed and well kept. That's one of the things I love about it.
The only drawback I've noticed is; because I fished out of a jon boat with just a trolling motor and fish finder, is I didn't venture to far out of sight of the boat ramp. I noticed a few times there were people cruising around the lake that probably had drug issues checking out all the parked vehicles at the boat ramp as they drove by; they'd see me or other people around and just keep going. I talked to a local and he said it is an issue so be aware. I just leave my truck unlocked anyway, I don't leave anything of value in it so unless they steal the whole truck and trailer they aren't getting anything.

I have fished Holbrook a lot and have never had my truck messed with over the years. That being said Holbrook has not been fishing good for a long time now.

Been fishing all of these for 30 years, Holbrook then Holbrook and Holbrook. Had three good trips early spring and night fishing in summer. Have not fished Hawkins since it was rated after a shocking survey as void of fish. Winnsboro and Quitman are fair at best

How do you want to catch them? you can catch them beating the banks as well as offshore at any given time.

Not true. Lake is full of water and full of grass. Fished a tourney there 2 weeks ago and did well. Crystal clear water as usual!

It is full. Dock repair draw down was over winter last year. It’s full pool unlike every other lake.

Tournament, wind, or TFF, has Holbrook packed today. I’ve been here 3 times in the past month and each time there was only about 4 boats max.

I was there. 2 club tournaments going on. Outcasts DFW club and Diana bass club. I fish with Outcasts club and as it was tough overall, it took 19.31 to win with 7.29 big fish! Not sure how the Diana club did but MAAAAANNNNN THE WIND BLEW!! Never seen that lake look like that
