Lake Fork Water Level Being Dropped for Dam Repair?? - 12/10/21 04:18 PM

I've seen on social media in a few places now that they are releasing water on Fork so they can do some dam repair. Anyone know if that is actually true? If so I wonder how low they will go?

Number I keep hearing is 3 more feet.

Time to break out my tin boat and do some more marking with the GPS.

It’s being dropped to 4 foot low for dam work. They are saying it will probably take a couple of months

Dropping it in addition to what looks like a dry winter. Lake could be crazy low by next summer. Hopefully they will get some good rain after the repair.

It's already at 3 feet low. Supposed to go an additional 3 feet for a total of 6 feet from what I'm seeing.

Some are saying 6-10 feet draw down for repairs.

Great time for dock owners to do repairs as well.

Or is this really Dallas taking the water?

Talked to SRA. They said the lake is almost 3 feet low now. They are going to drop it another 2 to 3 feet in order to do some work on the dam. They are going to drop it a foot a week starting Monday. Not clear on how long it will take to complete the repairs.

Didn't they do (or try to do) this after the drought-buster winter/spring of 2015?

Talked to SRA today and gentleman did confirm they will drop it another 2-3ft max. So it will be around the 6- 6 1/2ft low. And hope is that spring rains will fill it back up to full pool.

Lake Fork Reservoir – Soil Cement Repairs
SABINE RIVER AUTHORITY OF TEXAS
LAKE FORK
353 Private Road 5183, Quitman, TX 75783
903-878-2262
December 10, 2021
PRESS RELEASE

Engineers recommend that the Sabine River Authority of Texas, Lake Fork Division, make
minor repairs to the soil cement along the Lake Fork Dam, some of which are currently
located underwater. Recent wave action dislodged numerous small sections of the soil
cement along the upstream side of the embankment, which protects the earthen portion
of the dam.

To facilitate these superficial and routine repairs, a drawdown of the reservoir will begin
Monday, December 13th to a target elevation of 397’ msl. The current schedule is to have
the work completed and the lake trending back up by the end of January 2022, but the
rate of rise will depend on the progress of work, rainfall, and inflow from upstream
tributaries.

The drawdown will give lake side property owners an opportunity to inspect and make
necessary repairs to boathouses, piers, retaining walls, and related structures.
Construction approval applications for this type of activity can be obtained from the Lake
Fork Division Office (903-878-2262).
For more information contact the Lake Fork Division Office (903-878-2262).
