Lake Bastrop?

Lake Bastrop? - 08/09/21 03:41 PM

Anyone been to Lake Bastrop lately? Never have been, planned to go a while back but didn’t do it. Plan on making a day trip this Saturday

Just wondering how it’s fishing and if anyone has any info on it they would like to provide.

If not I’ll probably just go to Houston County, but figured I’d try something new this weekend

Schoolies are very sporadic. Lots of grass.

Buddy caught 6 last week. A dismal showing.

Might try Decker instead if you haven't been there if you want somewhere new

Too far for a day trip. Coming from southeast Houston. Wanna stay around 2 1/2hrs

Is that a pretty solid bass lake?

Bastrop sucks in the Summer. Go somewhere else.

Where's fishing good Rayzor? Trying to find something new within 3 hours of Houston but I've been to about all of them.. lol

Somerville? Haven't been there in YEARS and I've only fished it with little mobility in a flat bottom. I don't know a whole bunch about it

Tradinghouse Creek
Limestone (I can stay there all weekend, have a buddy with a lease near there just never have fished the lake)

Houston County took a turn for the worst IMO.

Unless you like catching bass that are all less than 3 lbs, mostly 1-2 lbs, go somewhere else.

I don't generally catch numbers of fish in the Summer unless you're talking about small (white/black) schooling bass. I don't fish Somerville or Tradinghouse Creek. HCL has always been a disappointment for me. I go saltwater fishing a lot in the hot months.

Good to know I’m not the only one. Another guy here told me the same thing. It hasn’t been worth a damn for me the past few trips

I play golf during the day in the summer. If I go fishing it's at night.

We did go to Holbrook at around 4 a.m. Saturday and stayed until 11 a.m. Fishing was terrible. I wish I had stayed in bed. A buddy of mine who has been fishing Nacogdoches since it opened went during the day Monday. He said it was slow there, too.

huh? Decker is not that far away from Bastrop, maybe 20 miles? Decker is a grass lake too and have done better there than Bastrop recently.

Yes, they are very close. I have fished Decker but not nearly as many times as Bastrop. I have found fishing for the aforementioned smaller fish to be much better on Bastrop. The water always been much clearer and the abundance of eel grass is a plus.

Have you tried fishing any of Houston's bayous such as Dickinson?

I have.. too many times. I’m about 15 mins from Dickinson Bayou and Clear Creek. About 25 mins from Halls Bayou
