Who wants to catch Rip Van Winkle up to speed here?

Open? No.

Functioning? Most likely, if it was open.

The ramp is probably fine since it isn't used any more.

Thick skin is first thing you need to hang in here. Secondly, Monticello has been closed for well over a year now. They imploded the three stacks just last week or so. No more Monti, unfortunately. Welcome to the TFF!

You can just go to squaw to get your fishing in....

Guess it's kind of a sore subject. To bad the state doesn't have enough money to open that ramp back up.

Yep. I heard they're not even taking money at the gate.

Dak needs to buy it and keep it open... It would take a lot on money to buy it.

If so that is very cheap for a lake that size. I would imagine there are some super rich that would buy that.
Heck it probably cost more than 12 mil to implode the place and clean it up.

Plant is gone and I tried to find where I read it and of course cannot find it

I think the 12 million was for the land not the lake. I would think the lake belongs to the State since the State owns all moving & navigable waters.

Maybe the Chinese will buy it!
They've bought up land everywhere else!

How is Monti navigable water?

I see pics online of yakkers out there. Is the bank accessible to launch a kayak/john boat?

Re: Monticello Ramp - 07/19/21 02:25 PM

SEARCH is your friend. I wish they would either open the ramp and close the spillway gate or else take the gate completely out.

The only public and legal land to launch from is the bridge (state owned).
So the kayakers lift their yaks over the railing and then the pipe.
Then walk down the concrete/rip rap.

Luminant owns the plant and the park. To my knowledge they will not entertain selling just the park, so it's a package deal for all the land around the lake and heck it may include the mine. If it hasn't expired yet, there was a lease on the park and the person that had the lease thought they could break even or make money on the entrance fee's and camping fee's. That didn't pan out, so the lessor is the one with the lock on the gate.

Luminant only owns the land around the lake, the plant and land with it was sold. It doesn't include the mine...Luminant typically holds them, plants trees, stocks ponds, etc...I've seen some of those mining properties go up for sale though. From my understanding, Luminant has the lock on the gate for liability reasons, it was open and leased for a period but not anymore.
