Flogger? - 06/25/21 01:35 PM

They are using them on MLF live this morning, anyone used one ever in TX during spawn or is this a northern thing?

what is a flogger?

Re: Flogger? - 06/25/21 01:44 PM

IMO - Our water clarity is a little different than up north, and we primarily fish for largemouth spawning rather than smallies. Depth of the beds is different.

I had to search for it, but once I saw a picture I realized what it was. Never heard it called that...

I’ve seen them used several times up north. Don’t remember ever seeing anyone use one down south.

Never heard of it or seen it until this thread, but I found this. Interesting.

"It's the cone of fun" - Mark Zona

He had these on his show one time and I've never laughed so hard. They were using it as a show prop and talking through it like a cheer leader.

It reminds me of this:

Re: Flogger? - 06/25/21 05:38 PM

Yeah, I just started watching today, kind of a trippy device, seems to working for them as the sight fish for deep water spawning bass....maybe it would work for parts of Texoma??
It also nice seeing a low-tech device for fishing in what has been becoming a big tech industry........

Does that come in bifocals?

Would that work on Squaw Creek?
Posted By: Squirrely Dan

Re: Flogger? - 06/26/21 01:11 PM

You’d have 20 boats with 20 guys looking down with 20 lures on on bed at squaw 😂

Re: Flogger? - 06/26/21 10:52 PM

Jeez, with all of the high dollar electronics on boats nowadays, they have to resort to a plastic viewing cone????

I need a 7’ tall version. I’m not laying on the deck

Re: Flogger? - 06/27/21 04:11 AM

I tried one like 10-15 years ago on kurth lake where they spawned in 6-8ft routinely. Water was clear but not clear enough. Platform worked better...

Re: Flogger? - 06/28/21 02:56 PM

You'd never need one in Texas. That said, I'm sure we'll see some next year.

Funny how they have 12-15k in electronics on board, but resort to looking thru a cone to see if there are fish down there....lol

Prediction—you will see them at a lake near you by this weekend, and more and more in the coming months.

I've had one for over a decade but you're right, very few lakes it's even worth it on. Amistad type lakes are what you need plus small mouth refuse to leave the bed so that helps. Most times it doesn't help with largies cause they are already gone when you can get close enough to use the flogger

Re: Flogger? - 07/06/21 03:21 PM

Well—how many of you saw people with floggers on a lake this weekend?
