Need help with large low pro bait caster - 06/14/21 02:57 AM

Good evening to everyone!! I’ve been out of the tournament fishing game for a while. My daughter got old enough to chase her sports dreams and I gave up fishing to travel the country with her. Now it looks like she’s going to get college paid for and it’s time for me to get back to what I love. I used to run Pfleugar president low pro bait casting reels. I loved them because I have large hands. I’ve been looking and I haven’t been able to find a larger bait caster my thumb feels comfortable in. Does anyone have advice on a reel that would be comparable? I still have some working presidents but they no longer carry parts so I’d like to switch to something else. Am I gonna be stuck with the larger round baitcasters like the shimano calcuttas? All help would be appreciated.

Give dads ol'tackle a call, see if they can rebuild your reels with new bearings. You might be suprised.

I'm running 12 shimano chronarchs from 1995-2005. All with high end bearings, love them. Been rebuilding them for years.

Otherwise you need to go and feel different reels and see what feels good. New reels are really good, but you can drop a small fortune on a bunch of new reels.

Keep us updated..

Thanks for the advice! I wasn’t aware they could be rebuilt. I went to Bass pro about 3 years ago and everything felt like they were too small

If you are not able to get your old reels reconditioned, another option would be to try the 300 size baitcasters. They are larger than the standard low profile models. Specific models would include the following:

Daiwa Lexa 300
Lews Superduty 300
Daiwa Tatula 300
Shimano Tranx 300

How big a ole boy are ya anyways?? smile

The newer Curado K's are nice and a good value for the money. They have the 200 size spool width like the old green Curados.
