So much mis-information and old wives tales in this post.
Fill us in.
Well, it's clear the fear of ethanol is over-hyped. It is ethanol SITTING that does the damage. If you run your motor consistently and often, ethanol doesn't really have a chance to do much damage. If you run ethanol with an ethanol "buster" fuel treatment there isn't much to worry about really. All the new fuel lines are not prone to ethanol degradation anymore, they fixed that issue. That's straight from one of the best Merc Mechanics in Texas. Now days, if you use an ethanol treatment and run your motor a lot, then ethanol isn't really a concern. Now, the HPDI's do struggle some with ethanol gas sitting in the tank/block and then being run hard out. They had the #2 cylinder in the big blocks blow sometimes. Others blew, but for some reason #2 blew more than most. Just did, that's why they came out with the series 2, to fix that issue. The smaller blocks like 175's didn't really struggle with this, the bigger the block, the more trouble they had - 250's and 300's. Still does happen, saw a guy yesterday at Fork who's HPDI popped. Don't really know why that was. Now, running 5 gallons of ethanol gas for a day of fishing ..... NO PROBLEM AT ALL, go fishing and have fun. Run that motor hard. Don't believe all the internet chatter about ethanol now days.
