How are Amistad water levels?

How are Amistad water levels? - 05/16/21 03:45 PM

Was thinking of hitting Amistad for a few days....but looks like the water levels are real bad there.

I fish an irrigation reservoir, so dropping water happens......but my home lake gets a lot more dangerous when the water levels drop. Im wondering if Amistad is like this too? Are there a lot more obstructions, and things that can ruin a lower unit when the water starts dropping? Hows the fishing been?

its 50 ft low but there is still tons of water out there. just swing wide on points. the lake has really clear water so its easy to see the shallow spots. easy lake to run around not many stumps

You are more apt to run aground on an under the surface island or point that sticks out a long way from the bank.

Guys down there are hearing it's going down another 12-15', so 62'-65' low. Box Canyon ramp will be closed soon. I recommend having a depth finder/chart plotter than can adjust for water level. I have a Navionics boating app on my phone/ipad that adjusts and works off GPS so it makes running the lake easier.

Good luck.

How has it not come up any? Are they not getting any of the rain we have been getting in South Texas? Hell, even Choke came up 1 inch.

Choke came up a foot. You might have typo’d the inch.

From that look on the page I posted it looks like its just going down. They just closed an area...and even said people are tearing it up offroading. So I figure its recently become a mud pit and why all the offroaders are tearing it up. Mud is a siren song to those people LOL

im not 100% sure what water rights up around here and in NM have to do Amistad's water levels.....but things are really bad here in NM and El Paso too. They still havent opened the irrigation gates at Elephant butte.....things are not looking good for water along the Rio grande. I dont think Colorado got anywhere near what was expected...and was probably on the low side overall if I remember correctly.

sad to see. and will do on the navionics.

seeing it out here at the butte too....but we are still coming up a little....BUT when they open it, its gonna be like punching a basketball size hole through your bathtub levels of drainage! Its gonna be real bad this year at the butte and I bet Amistad too since they are connected

Let me ask opinions now.....do you all think the dropping water makes fishing easier or harder? Maybe cuz I suck at fishing....but I swear things become more a grinder during irrigation season for me. Anyone else feel theyve noticed any difference?
