Hummingbird help - 05/10/21 11:46 PM

I have a helix 9 on the bow of my skeeter. The transducer is built into my ultrex. Everything is less than a year old. All of a sudden I can only get sonar at the bow from my transducer that is at the back of the boat. I am not very good at the electronics. Any suggestions on what my problem might be? I fish so much that I am trying to avoid taking it in to sit in line. Thanks for any ideas.

Check connections

You have to have an air gap between your transducer in the Ultrex and the Helix.. or the transducer has failed.

First. hit menu memu and scroll over to the sonar. arrow up and you will be at the bottom of the sonar settings. Make sure it says built in HW (MSI or MDI) or something like that. then start going thru connectors..

Check the cable connection inside the head of the ultrex....

You might simply be in standby mode which turns the sonar off. It's under one of the 1st menus that pops up.

I appreciate the ideas. I will try to check them. Like I said, I am not real good at that kind of stuff. Don’t know what to look for in an air pocket. Do have to dismantle something to look at the connections inside the head? And I’ll check the other things.

prosise is correct on checking the connected transducer.

I just replaced my Helix 9 on the bow with a Helix 12 Gen4 and the first time out sonar and di were working fine for about 5 min and then it went to map screen.
I couldn't change the view back to sonar or di. Checked to make sure sonar was still on, it was. Checked connected transducer and for some reason it had
switched to 360 transducer. I don't have a 360 on my boat so I don't know why it switched to that. It is supposed to auto detect the connected transducer. I changed it back to MDI+ transducer and it worked fine the rest of the day.

if
If it's not a transducer selection issues....yes, you'll have to remove the screws to dismantle the head, inside the head is a cable connection that screws together....my buddy had the same issue with a fairly new ultrex

A few weekends ago my bow unit did something similar. All of the sudden it decided to pick the 360 transducer as its transducer. So I did not have SI, DI, or sonar. Took me forever to figure it out but finally selected the correct transducer and all is well now. No idea why it decided to switch transducers all the sudden. Go into your sonar setting and make sure you have the correct transducer selected before you start taking things apart.

It was not on built in HW. I bet that’s it. Not sure how it got off of that but I will try it tomorrow. Thank you.

Well. Even after switching to the built in hw sonar. It didn’t work. It only reads the back transducer.

Reset the unit to Factory Settings and try again. If that doesn't work, you may have an issue with the hardware. Calling HumminBird Tech Support may be a great option for you!

Unplug your Ethernet cord from the unit and try it. If it still won’t work your transducer has a problem.
