Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake - 04/13/21 06:23 PM

I'm looking into taking a trip over to Caddo Lake in a couple weeks to get some East Texas fishing in. I've never been, but I'm just looking to catch numbers and have a bit of fun out on the water. Would y'all recommend this lake for consistent numbers? Thanks.

If you know where to fish. I love Caddo and spent my teen years fishing it but it can be very difficult. Everything looks the same and a topo map won't help. Might want to concentrate on the oxbows and small lakes off the river. Good luck and make sure to stay in the boat lanes when on plane.

If you've never been before - your probably going to spend more time looking than fish.
Dont be alarmed, everyone does it.

We went to Caddo this last weekend. Apparently all of the vegetation was killed off during the February freeze. I was told that they received 14 inches of snow and the temp dropped below zero. My favorite spot was completely devoid of the lily pads we like to fish hollow body frogs. The water was muddy and about a foot low. We caught a few LMB here and there but nothing worth talking about. I did however catch the biggest Chain Pickerel I have ever snagged. I caught one that weighed at least 3 pounds. All of the ones that I have caught in the past have all been 1 pound max.

A shout out of thanks to the good people at Backwater Jacks. We stayed in a really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin there on the water. I highly recommend them.

Try to rent last cast cabin. If you decide to come between mudd and me we can put you on a few fish.

It was dead before the snow storm. The hurricanes last year took a lot of the veggie out in the lake

Thanks for all the help. I will be reaching out if I make the trip over there in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to put numbers in the boat and enjoy the area for a couple days. From what it sounds like, I can catch a few!

We booked Last Cast for about a week back in January of last year while we fished Caddo and area lakes. Great place to stay.

Unfortunately the giant salvinia isn’t going anywhere. It did take a big hit but there is still green salvinia and will be back this summer.

It was still green the day after it all melted. Unless it stays below 3 for 72hrs it won’t fully cure the problem. It’s still growing like crazy

Where's Last Cast Cabin? Tried to search for it, but First Cast Cabin keeps popping up.
