Mercury 250 Pro XS - 04/02/21 08:29 PM

I just purchased a 2018 boat with a 2018 Mercury 250 Pro XS 2 stroke. This is my first Mercury. What is the preferred oil for this motor? Do you run just regular gasoline or premium.?Feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

I also just got a 2018 250 Proxs. Run 89 octane and use non ethanol gas in it. I've always run mid grade gas in my truck and boat. Just bought some of the BAsspro semi-synthetic blend TWC-3 oil. Anyone else use that yet? Good luck with your new boat and congrats!

The owners manual recommends DFI oil with premium plus being acceptable. 87 octane gas is recommended but I try to find the non-ethanol as well.

I run DFI oil and 87 octane gas with ethanol. Not too many places around here carry the ethanol free. When you can find it it’s around $.75 per gallon higher.

Check out Domo online oil prices.

Ive been running Amsoil for awhile now. It seems to burn a little cleaner than the Merc oil.

I ran quick silver synthetic and regular old 87 octane in mine.

2013 Pro XS 250. Always use Mercury DFI oil. I usually purchase it from Rockwell Marine. They carry it in bulk but sell it in their own gallon jugs cheaper than I find it anywhere else. Gas is 87 octane. No guess work because that’s exactly what Mercury specs for the motor. Ethanol free fuel when it’s convenient.

Good advice here. And run the piss out of it every trip at least once

With an opitmax run DFI oil and 87 octane gas with Dons cocktail preferably, its a pain but will save you $ on failures. I also religiously run non ethanol gas but thats not a must if your using the cocktail.

No reason to run dfi oil in it. I have an 08’ with somewhere around 1000 hours on it and I run Pennzoil. It’s significantly cheaper, has the same warranty certifications, and I have actually seen a Shell refinery. Have you ever seen a Mercury refinery?

Do yourself a favor and run the DFI Oil.

Run the exact oil that has been ran in it. I’ve heard not to change types

Nothing wrong with Premium Plus. $22.95 a gal @ Academy everyday.

You don't have to run the DFI oil but trust me they run better and last longer if you do
