Looked like the other boats never saw what happened since they were ahead. One looked to be even with him when he crashed. May have never known. He got lucky it didn't turn out worse.

He wasn't wearing his kill switch, after he hits the bank he gets up on front deck to pull his rods off from the gunnel, the motor is still running the whole time, he then sits back down an puts it in gear. I don't see how they don't DQ him but after that culling incident on live last year nothing Daniel Fennel does will surprise me.

I'm pretty sure that insurance can deny claims based on reckless driving and/or having broken laws during the accident or that caused the accident. So he might be in some hot water here...

He came over the wake and the front dropped in and bit....caused a hard turn straight towards the bank. He was too close to the bank in my opinion. He definitely lost control of his boat.

If they deny a claim on this then they would never pay on any accident. Every accident could be considered reckless driving. He just caught a wake wrong

It was an accident as a result of negligence. That's why he should be disqualified. At least yesterday's catch. Just because he didn't kill someone doesn't mean he didn't exercise negligent operation of a boat. As far as insurance goes, I don't know. Just wondering if you were found to be negligent, does insurance pay. I looks like the question is whether he was negligent. In my opinion, yes. Others may see it a different way.

He was doing what everyone does at tournament take off. Trying to pass boats. He caught a wake wrong.

I will say Ranger looks pretty good here from a safety perspective. He used the bank as a ramp and wasn’t tossed out, engine still ran. I know the boat is totaled, but he survived and made it back to the ramp. Didn’t even look like he lost any rods.

I'm not being an apologist. I just see it for what it is. Most everyone on here that fishes tournaments drives just like that at take off. He might have been one bump high on the trim button. But that makes it an accident. Not reckless or negligent.

Agree. He was losing it before he lost it and didn't back off. He pushed it and paid the price for his ignorance. No kill switch hooked either. Could have easily been a lot worse.

I will add that reckless is an appropriate adjective as well. Once the boat's lateral rocking from the wakes started getting out of control, he didn't appear to ever let off (the throttle), nor did he appear to correct heading to give that point a wider berth. He was committed to cutting the corner as close as possible over any corrective measure that lost 10 seconds time.

He does reach to his chest with his left hand right before he gets up. Was he unclipping his kill switch? I don't know but maybe.

Running hammer down in bad weather, co hanging on for his life....and the dude is worried about his camera and reaching down for it taking focus away from the run?! I saw the first high resolution video, you can't tell, you only know for sure he puts the throttle in neutral. I'm inclined to think being the shock of it all he would not have unclipped that fast before stepping up to the flipping deck.

What he did was dangerous and he paid a price for it in his equipment being effed up, I am so glad no one was around that point and he didn't have a marshall. It could have been far worse. Cutting a blind corner in a river is bad enough in of itself. No one came to his rescue because the guys he were trying to pass didn't see it. The next boat was 30-45 second behind him and probably never saw it. He needs to show some accountability and humility for his mistake...

I was asked about an accident I had once by our corporate insurance / safety guy what I could have done to avoid the accident? They had been preaching that most accidents are avoidable.

I told them that all accidents are avoidable and he asked what I thought and I said I could have stayed home that Saturday morning instead of getting up to go to work.

I believe there are different types of electronic kill switches. Some work when submerged. Some when a certain distance away. I think you can set the distance

Very true, and he may have had one, but it did look like he got fairly wet, so we might be able to discount the water-activated versions. Odds are with the simple answer of "not attached" however.

While I spent my entire career immersed in high technology, I don't feel that items such as a kill switch mechanism need an expensive does of technology. The reasons for it may be more valid for larger vessels; for bass boats, I believe simple can be counted on better than high-tech that could have a problem when needed most.

I wear a regular life jacket because I don't trust auto inflate. I will always hook up my kill switch lanyard because I wouldn't trust an electronic one. I have no idea if he had one on. Just throwing out that possibility instead of assuming he wasn't wearing one

Isn’t a kill switch test a common test right before a numbered launch. I know almost all the big tournaments I fish have one. “On three...everyone pull the switch”....followed by the one “legit” guy that just doesn’t listen and his motor is still running. Hahaha.

I think he had his kill switch hooked to his jacket and removed it as he jumped up from the seat. It’s habit for guys that do this every weekend.

What you’re seeing in some people’s comments is part of a bigger societal cancer that’s spreading rapidly throughout our civilization. There are people out there who worship and have committed a blind allegiance to liars and crooks and will ignore common sense and indisputable facts in plain sight... they will dispute information coming from trained professionals, without having any credible conflicting facts about what’s in everybody’s best interest, over their own inconveniences, they will defend a criminal at the same time as being ripped off by that criminal. If one didn’t know better, they might think somethings been polluting our drinking water or food chain thats caused irreparable damage to many people’s ability to see things rationally. But if you watch some of them, just for a minute here and there. It's obvious ,that far too many ,have little to no clue, what they are doing, concerning boat driving.
