Lake Bridgeport

First time ever fishing Bridgeport this weekend.

Going to be launching at Wise County Park up north. Any suggestions on what to look for? I know pre-spawn is the time frame, but any advice would be super helpful.

If it were me I would simply look for an area with multiple breaklines and drop TM and get to covering water. Too many fish in that lake to sit in one area without any bites. This weather this week should at least get them a bit more active which should improve the fishing. We are still a little early to expect any quantity of spawners but do not be afraid to go up shallow either. A lot of fish at Bridgeport live shallow. Also no need to downsize line or lures. Its a fun time of the year to fish out here.

Water temps on Saturday were 45-47 and with the fog, the bite was really tough, for me at least. 2 solid keepers in 5 hours. One flipping so piled up brush behind a dock in 3’ of water and the other on a DT 10 doing what Mark said, just covering water.

Most of the bait was suspended between 20-25” of water but there was plenty there. Only 2nd time on the lake, but I only fished the area by Wise County ramp. Cool little lake and can’t wait to get back out there when it turns on!

Lake is down 4ft , motoring out from the ramps to the right it is really shallow way out from the beach. Look at the ramp before you back down, a couple are tight and have some spots you don't want to get you tires off into.

I’m heading out there soon too....I was looking at navionics and it shows flooded timber on the north end, yet I’ve also heard you can run the whole lake without worrying about trees.

How far north and into the two major creek arms can you go before running into flooded timber. Or is it safe the whole way though?

When you start to see timber I would slow down and idle. Most of the lake is very easy to run as long as you swing wide of points etc. Coming out of the mouth of the river to main lake you will see a set of buoys marking what we call Lower Unit Point. Do not cut across that area unless you know where to run. I would not reccomend running the Big Creek area on pad unless you know it nor the river area up to Wizard Wells etc. Just idle to be safe in those spots.

That’s what I figured. Thank you for giving me an idea...first time on it it’ll be dark coming in and I’ll know to take it easy once I get to the North End at those buoys.
