Alright guys, I'm headed down to Choke to poke around a bit. What is your advice on not ripping off my lower unit? I'll be putting in at Calliham. Thanks!
You just gotta do it Stank style and let it roll coal. Good thing all the fish are behind Huisache and there’s no brush back there. No worries about scratches or lower units.
Hey Mr. Minner, can you share some wypts with me and what baits I should throw???

My secret weapon is flex tape, yes, flex tape is as essential as Tp down here..
Like any other Texas lake with timber, you can just hit the hammer and hope for the best or idle and mark trails until you feel confident in your ability to run the lake.
Now there’s a guy in the freshwater section asking about running Choke, fricking ridiculous. Going to be lines of boats trying to fish the banks in Huisache.
So you can run where it's open and not where it isn't?
You can run where you know there aren’t any trees. If you don’t know where the trees are, then say a prayer and roll coal. We don’t have boat lanes, we have flex tape for our stumps.

How does that have anything to do what the OP asked
The OP is going on his own time, with his own boat, fishing on his own, and wants some advice on running around Choke Canyon.
I don't mean to be an [censored] or anything. That just annoys the hell out of me
May not mean to be but clearly you are.
Sorry it annoys you so much but it appears my advice is the closest to anything true so far. For $300 on a half day trip Dannie will show him around and where to safely run while also putting him on some good patterns to fish. Choke if you’ve never been on it has a ton of standing timber and no boat lanes. You can’t just tell someone how to run this lake, either it’s experience or someone has to show you. It’s also just about 35% capacity on its water level so that changes things as well. So yeah, $300 for some safe routes and minimizing damage to your boat sounds like a very good investment.
In all honesty though if you're not sure idle. I've found plenty of stumps with my long tail that would for sure drop a lower on a outboard. Scary thing is I've running what I perceived as open water and smacked a stump 6" below the water. Hit the motor hard enough to knock my throttle and alternator off the motor.
There are trees along the entire river, all the way to 4 fingers. If you see the channel on your graph, there’s trees in it and some you will hit at this level. (This is all water that appears to be open/cleared)
I miss fishing Choke. I lived in Corpus when it opened. I started fishing Choke the third week it was open. I miss those days.
Yep. Just wished I would have had a video camera and taped the whole lower part of the lake before it flooded. BTW quail hunting was pretty good back in those days in the lake bed.
