Livescope transducer mount question? - 01/21/21 02:49 PM

Pros and Cons of mounting straight to the shaft of the Ultrex vs. mounting to a pole that you can control by hand?

I put mine on right on the force tm, works great. see fish, hit anchor lock and give em heck.

I mostly glance at graphs when fishing, tm is normally headed the way I am fishing but I can turn livescope with my foot if I want a different view, just shut prop off while "looking".

with 2 graphs and pedal my old butt does not need anything else to mess with on the bow, I can compromise on where my livescope is pointing.

Pro, easy to sweep and look around while being hands free.

Con, you have to spot lock in a perfect position to use LS while spotlocked.

I finally purchased a garmin livescope system in December. Mounted the transducer on my ultrex. I've had it out on the water a few times now. Thus far I am not wild about it being on the trolling motor shaft. First reason is in anything less than a stiff wind it is near worthless when the ultrex is on spot lock. Motor is constantly moving making it impossible to see what you are wanting to look at. 2nd reason I'm not wild about it is it seems like every time I move the foot pedal to look around with the transducer I inadvertently hit the momentary switch. I don't think that will be as big of an issue in the summer because I often fish either bare footed or in flip flops. Right now I primarily fish in my warm boots which are wide. 3rd reason I'm not wild about it being on the trolling motor shaft is it seems hard to slow trolling motor movement down enough to get a good look around. Perhaps as I use the system more these things will become less of an issue.

I also have Mega 360 and have seen a few crappie guys mount the panoptix transducer to the 360 shaft. I am considering doing this next time I go out just to see how it performs. Mounting a separate pole just for the livescope transducer is not an option for me. I don't want anything else on my deck. Between 2 graphs, trolling motor, and rods it has enough clutter.

Just my .02 cents. Again, I have only had it out a few times so take it for what its worth.
