I just pick up the last one at BPS last week. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet other than in the pool. So far so good.

Wouldn’t putting electrical tape on spool a little ways down then spooling on more line do the same thing?

All I know is iIt has specific settings for skipping that are supposed to enable you to skip without backlashing. I want to hear a review before I drop $200 on another reel to add to my already too big collection.

It says skipping on the dial instead of 11-20 like the lews hypermag.....

Its cheaper than the hypermag because its heavier.

$100 cheaper, only one ounce heavier and less bearings. I got one on order because I'm intrigued and should go well with my skipping rod. Cant go wrong with a lews reel

I have the reel and have used it for it’s designed functions and I personally do not like it. The pros are the weight of the reel and I like the handle. The cons are it does not handle heavier baits in my opinion and it feels a tad clunky. I may sound pretty nit picky but I just like skipping with a daiwa tatula 100 or SV. If you use lews reels often this reel would be a joy to use and fish with.

Wouldn't the digital shimano skip without backlash? Downside it the annoying sound every cast....

Here is my review:
The reel is the same basic design as the Custom Lite SLP but has an aluminum frame. This makes it a small reel that is easy to palm and hold. The shallow spool holds about 50 yards of Sunline FC Sniper 18 lb flouro. It does not have the line indicator on the spool tension nor a carbon fiber handle (I imagine to keep the cost down) but is still a very light reel. The knobs are EVA instead of the Winn knobs on so many of their reels (my favorite knobs are the cork/EVA knobs). The markings on the brake system are unique with recommended skipping zones.
Much of the reel is the same as many other Lews reels. The magic sauce is the spool. The shallow spool holds less line so it will stay light and have less inertia. This keeps it from over spinning on a hard cast and allows it to stop spinning if the line stops pulling out. Combined with the brake system this will reduce backlashes. When you do get a backlash it will be minimal since the spool is shallow. Its easy to pull one out even if it goes deep into the spool. I have even pulled out almost all of the line before and reel it right back on quickly.

I have found I need more brake for skipping and less for pitching/flipping. For pitching/flipping you are relying on the inertia of the bait to carry it to the target. A low, steady trajectory is usually best. This reel will do it. I have a Daiwa Tatula P/F reel and it will match it.
In shallow water you can get away with longer casts though you will be far down the spool to where you see "gold". It's a no-go for long, deep water fishing.

Overall the reel performs very well for its intended purpose - definitely has improved my skipping game.

In comparing this to the other Lews reels I have (Pro TI, Hypermag, Custom Lite SLP, Team Lite, Custom Pro, and Mag Pro) this one has a place in my arsenal. I own two right now that I use for skipping jigs.

I have these paired up with Kistler Helium 7' MH. When skipping is not part of the game plan I switch them out for Hypermags.

Thanks for all the replies on this one.
Probably just cost me a couple hundred as well.

Thanks
