Any other active power plant lakes besides Welsh within 3-4 hours of Dallas?? Anyone ever fished Konowa or Sooner Lake in Oklahoma? Any good?

Martin Creek and Brandy Branch are still open but I'm not sure if they are generating.

Squaw? If they are open?

With this cold front, I’d expect some of the peak demand plants to kick on
Lake Arlington, Lavon, Ray Hubbard etc.

Dont waste your time at Konawa. Its my home lake for 30 years and its as bad as Ive seen it. Generation is spotty at best and the grass just isnt there. 30 boat tourny last week and 6 fish weighed in. This was a jackpot and all the locals fished it.

Does anyone here know what is happening with the Lavon power plant ? I see it still pumping a lot of water but the water isn't warm and there is never steam coming from the stacks . Why would they pump water but not be generating ? Its been that way for few years now .

Maybe just going through the motions to keep the pipes clear?

this^^^^. If you let it sit and not run water through it the it can't just fire it up again. They maintain it just in case the need power. I use to work for TXU at one time.

I don't know the mechanics of power generation but Lake Bastrop recirculates water (seemingly) every day and it is hardly ever "warm." I can remember fishing the discharge when it was so cold, ice would form on your rod guides. All you had to do was dip your rod in the water and the ice would melt. Not so much anymore.

Agree, algae and corrosion start forming quickly on all the pipes if the water is not continuously pumped.....

I wonder how much energy they waste pumping water and not using the plants to save emissions...lol

I have fished Sooner Lake in OK, it was years ago but fishing was pretty good...a friend fishing from the back of my boat caught his PB there, a little over 10 lbs, released.

Martin Creek was generating last week, water temp 70+ at bridge. Lake is lower than I’ve seen it in a few years. Fished there this past Friday and it ran until about noon. The week before about the same thing... plant running early then shuts down later in the day.

Re: Any Other Power Plant Lakes?? - 12/31/20 06:40 PM

I've been hitting my same spots as previous years and exploring ... not as good as usual. Two feet less water over the grass I usually catch them in so I'm fishing a lot of water I don't normally fish. Put in at ramp at bridge and stay on that side all day both days. Did catch a few better fish on 5 inch swimbaits but more and much smaller ones on finesse spinnerbaits.

6.75 Rising Son... go big or go home. roflmao First time I've ever thrown it, line thru but had it on 8/0 Flashy Swimmer. On a calm day youl'l want to splash it about 40 yards past where you want to sneak it through.

If it’s anything like last year, trying to find a spot without a boat on it is difficult.
