Smallmouth over 5# are a treat when you are expecting a largemouth. Makes you think you have a 15+ on the string. flehan

Thats the truth!

I caught a really good one on Texoma not long ago. I submitted it as the new CR record... TPWD is a bit backed up though, they said 6-9 months to review and confirm my submission lol

They are great fish! And props to the young man thats a fish of a lifetime as far as Texas smallies go! Awesome!

Zero way to tell if its a smallie or a meanmouth without analyzing DNA. We have gone over this over and over and over. Either way great catch!

Sadly, I came to the party late and didn't see any of those discussions.

Having moved from Tennessee only 2 years ago I have seen plenty of the mean mouth hybrids. One thing they "usually" had was the coloring of the smallmouth with the vertical bars, but also had a LATERAL LINE. Does that fish in the pic have a faint lateral line or is it a reflection?

Like everyone has said though ... nice fish either way.

My question is who cares? Looks plenty smallmouth enough to qualify in my book. This is Texas. If it has a little brown tint we count it.

Nice smallmouth!!!

I believe either way it’s a record! It looked like a smallie to me...could be wrong.

As big at the mouth is I do suspect that is a mixed breed fish. I would love to catch one that that. I may have to revisit RayBob.

AGREED. After seeing the 2nd photo I have to say that if it isn't a smallmouth it sure is doing a great impersonation of one. thumb
