What kind of fisherman are you? - 10/26/20 05:59 PM

I typically head out for about 3-5 hours per fishing trip. On the rare occasion will I spend most of the day on the water.

What say the rest of you?

Usually on the water and at the spot I want to start as the sun comes up and home around noon give or take an hour. I live right by the water so that’s all pretty much fishing time. So 4 To 6 hours.

I’m a lousy fisherman.
But time wise, I usually put in around 8 or 9 hours. I adjust for weather so that during hot summer, I’m out predawn. The rest of the years, I’m out mid-morning and stay til sundown.

When I am staying at the lake, I usually go dawn to dusk or, in the summer until "it ain't no fun no more" In the winter I usually start afte a big ole breakfast unless its warm water. Lately its and I quote "The older I get the later the fish bite."

I like to put in 8 hours but getting out at first light isn't as appealing as it used to be.

Try to fun fish with the wife on Sunday afternoons for about 4 hours. Pre-fish for the Thursday tournament generally on Tuesday from first light to at least 1-2. The tournament itself is generally 8 hours depending on the time of the year. Start earlier in the summer and end at noon, 8 AM until 3 PM in the winter and the rest follows the sunrise.

Top water at daybreak. Then drive through 3 or 4 selected best areas looking for the best ones on the depth finders. Then start fishing those one or two Hot Spots where I have located fish.

Daylight till dark weather permitting. 2 days a week weather permitting, sometimes 3. If I invite a buddy, I accommodate them , but that is rare that I am not fishing alone.

I'm usually the opposite of everyone... In the heat of the summer - all day. In the winter, when it gets warm enough until it gets too cold.

Unfortunately a change in job schedule has affected my fishing schedule, and my sleep hygiene is terrible right now, so getting on the water is a bit more of a struggle on the weekends. Just moved near a lake, so hope to spend some more afternoons out there during the week...

For 35 years we fished about 35 weekends a year. In the Spring, we would start later in the day for temps sake.
Fished in all kinds of weather...100+ to ice and snow on the deck. Had a few run ins with lightening. Fished all over Texas.

that was then...
today - it's about four or five hours and I'm beat.

Depends on the heat/bite. Usually first light to noon. If I'm just not feeling it sometimes I leave by 9:30 or so

One that has fun no matter fun fishing or tournament fishing. Some days I am on the water 12-14hrs and some days just a few hours. I try to have fun every trip out.

I try to fish as long as I can. 9-10 hrs is the norm for me, if I'm by myself and no one waiting at home for me, I'll go longer. Last year I spent 14 days in a row on Rayburn, Sunrise to sunset every one of those days, except the last day...decided to take some time to recover.

I go when I can go, which is usually 9-10am til about 4 to 5pm depending on if they are biting. I started to winter fish a lot more last year, which many days I questioned why.
