Ultrex Problem

Ultrex Problem - 10/13/20 05:03 PM

Hello, I recently purchased a used Basscat and the Minn Kota Ultrex is having a problem. Everything on the trolling motor functions properly but Spot-Lock does not work. When I push the anchor symbol on the foot pedal nothing happens. No light comes on and the trolling motor does not respond in any way. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve? Thanks in advance.

Are you 100% sure the GPS puck is working?

And if you use the IPilot hand unit when you turn it on do you get a messageg that the motor is operating? If those are working it's something in the electronics unfortunately. I've had a couple of Ultrex problems but not a failure like you mention.

It could be two things. The first is the brain of the unit which is up at the head or top of the unit has gone bad. It could be under warranty and probably still is as they honor a lot of issues that are past the warranty deadline. Mine went out about 2 months ago. I took it to Borris Marine and they fixed it in 20 minutes. I knew mine had an issue cause it kept beeping and that's when I noticed the spot lock did not work. The second could be your gps puck has quit working but this rarely happens and that is something you can check yourself. Look for the intermitting light on the puck itself.

You can go to MInnkota's web site to look up where to get the serial number off of the unit. That will tell you how old the unit is or at least what year it was made. They were not sitting on the shelves very long so generally the serial number year model will tell you when it was sold as well.

Spot lock will work without the gps puck, I have tested this. GPS heading sensor is for jogging left / right, back and forth. Probably something wrong with the brains of the Ultrex. Should be a serial number underneath the foot pedal if you unscrew it from the deck.

I doubt if this works, but it's worth a try. Get your remote and try using the anchor button on it.

Mr Seymour is correct above. The round heading sensor puck does not have to be connected for spot lock to work.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I can not get anything to respond in the remote, the puck, or on spot lock. I'm going to have to call Minn-Kota tomorrow. Thanks agin, I'll let y'all know how it turns out.

I am not meaning to be insulting by asking a very basic question, but have you read the Owner's manual and paired the motor correctly?

Check the foot pedal for even the slightest restriction. Also, make sure to index the trolling motor. Both of these things can cause the spot lock to not activate.

Spot lock does not operate off of the heading sensor puck. That is for the jog feature.

Do you have iLink? I will be replacing my head module next week so I can have iLink. If it is your head module I can sell you my old one.
