3 HUGE Rayburn stumps!

3 HUGE Rayburn stumps! - 09/06/20 01:37 AM

I was heading back to Mill Creek this afternoon after the trump parade and happen to split 2 pretty good size stumps that I never knew was there. I always thought this end of the lake was open. I haven't check water level to see what the pool level is at, but if the water was up another 1' this could have been bad news... Now like I said I split them, and didn't see them until about 50 yards out. They were both about 25 yards on each side of the boat so I just put a mark in the middle of them. Here is the coordinates

N 31 06.997
W 94 03.104

Also, the second picture attached is another stump that if the same situation (the water being a 1' up) would cause damage.. I didn't get coordinates but I got a somewhat screenshot of the area.

Hope this helps for the safety of everyone

Thanks

Pictures of the actual stumps, no... I had my family on board and main concern was getting to the ramp. I had just enough time to stop and get waypoints... I literally put the boat on trailer, strapped her down, and the bottom completely fell out

You would be surprised what's out in the middle of that lake. They never cleared the edges of the channels

We got a camp at Raybyrn 100 area and never seen these stumps the past 20 years. I guess I've always ran the lake when the water was at a decent level... I don't know. But I was surprised when I came across them..

I'm heading back north Monday, I'll see if the wife will let me get out there and get some pictures of the stumps.
Makes me cringe because I was wide open from twin dikes to Mill Creek running from that storm

I remember in middle school and high school when the lake was down you had to really watch yourself on that end of the lake. Lots of big stumps. Same for the stretch that runs from westwood over to five fingers out in the middle that most people don't know exists. They are big. Lots of those big randoms people take for granted while running when the lake is 160 and above

Yea. That stretch sticking out plus stuff all around the river channel. Theres a big group in the middle in front of Coleman, some out in front of squirrel island out in the main lake. You had to be really careful on most of the lake. Theres a whole lot I see people go over and I dont know how they make it

Been fishing Rayburn 50+ years and it makes me cringe when I see guys running obliviously through areas that I know still have standing timber right below the surface.

I was up at Shirley Creek for a little while yesterday with an old high school buddy to go out and fish for a bit. I saw all of the Trump parade boats running under the bridge and right through places I would not go!!! Not sure if any of them hit anything, but they had a chance!

A little mean, but pretty funny.

The guy I fished with in my first BFL said he’d gone through two lower units in the past year on that lake, tore both of them completely off from what I understand. He’s a regular stick @ Rayburn. I’ve got a tournament at the end of this month at Rayburn and some of the post I’ve seen lately has got me wondering how dangerous this is going to be. I've heard if it was a bit lower it would actually be a lot safer because the majority of the stumps that are just under the surface would be exposed.

Conservation pool shows to be 164.40' and current level shows 161.19' per Water Data For Texas. So it looks to be a little bit over 3 foot low.

I've honestly thought for the past years that this end of the lake we never had anything to worry about. I have never seen these before...
