What’s your favorite do everything line?ast

What’s your favorite do everything line?ast - 08/19/20 12:39 AM

I am looking for a do it all line for my pond hopping baitcasting rig. T rigs, spinner/chatterbaits, crankbaits, top waters, and weightless plastic like flukes or senkos. I’d assume a good mono would get the nod here, so what do y’all recommend?

If you want a monofilament line I would go with Berkley Big Game. It is cheap and it is a good mono.
I would step up to a co-polymer line like McCoys, Ande or PLine Premium. I like PLine CXX but many don't like how it curls, but it is very strong. I use CXX in 15# test and less for most stuff. I use 20# for large swim baits.
PLine Premium isn't as strong as CXX but it has way less memory.

That is just my suggestion. I don't have a favorite line for everything. I choose the line I use based on the technique I am fishing, same as the rod and reel I use. I don't use one thing for everything.

For pond hopping, 12lb PLine CXX will do everything well.

For pond hopping, you could probably get away with 10lb CXX and possibly get more bites.

I’d do CX premium.12 or 15 pounds. Very limp and great casting. Strong line, not the strongest. And cost effective. $7/$8 at academy. Cheap.

Big Game for sure! For what you are doing it is dirt cheap and excellent line.

10 or 12lb YoZuri Hybrid
P-Line is good stuff, but YoZuri is great. It's right in-between P-Line CX Premium and CXX. It's very abrasion resistant and still limp. Casts well and doesn't have too much memory.

For a pond do-it-all line I'd say pretty much any brand/type either 12 or 15 lb.

My travel rod has 30 lb braid on it...I can use just about every presentation with that light of line. It hasn't cost me bites yet while pond hopping.

I'm not sure what size bass you most often find or how you engage a hook-set. I tend to use 17 # Stren or Trilene because it holds a knot really good and I can power-on a hook-set.

Brown T line, good line. I would use this over Big Game but not many people have it. You might have to order online. Ande is good line also but you also have to order online.

Re: What’s your favorite do everything line?ast - 08/19/20 11:42 PM

Never tried the Pline topwater, but CXX is the lowest maintenance non braided line I’ve used. It will spoil you because it is so abrasion resistant. I have to remind myself every now and then to retie (even if the CXX feels OK), just so I don’t develop complacent bad habits.

Vanish has the worst reputation of all fluorocarbon lines on the market.

15 lb big game is my go to most used line. Most of my reels have it spooled. Braid. Daiwa j braid 8. Frog and a rig it’s my choice. Fluorocarbon Seaguar 15 on my senko rod. Seaguar flipping fluorocarbon 20 lb on my flipping rod. As a leader. 40 lb j braid as my main line. It been this way several years and it works great for me.

Never done me wrong, and does everything I need it to do. I don't see or have any reasons to switch. I'll stick with it till I do. Thanks for the input though.

I use 10 and 12 lb BG still.. If I had to choose one obviously it would be 12.

Hey bud, I took your advice on some CXX and spooled up some 12lb for my worm rod as you had said you can go a little lighter with CXX. You were exactly dead on accurate in your assessment. Starts out like twisted bailing wire the first few casts but then begins to loosen up and get more limp as you cast more. At least in the heat it does. Interesting line.

Re: What’s your favorite do everything line?ast - 08/20/20 01:20 PM

15lb and above, I’d use CXX for leader material. (I use braid to leader on everything except frog/heavy pitching (then just straight braid)

So, even my 8, 10, and 12lb CXX is leader only; but I think 12lb and under is manageable enough to use without a braid mainline.

Stretching it and spraying on line conditioner would certainly help.

The more abrasion resistant a non braided line has, the more memory it will have.

Thats why I like braid as mainline (no memory)

Vicious fluorocarbon. You can but that stuff at Academy for $19.99 for 500yds. I took some to Mexico and was nervous about it but it held up very well and more much more castable than I thought it was going to be.

I only use tatsu 15 mostly, not sure why a pond would be different than a boat, but I guess maybe because you could run further with mono to get a good hook set where Ill end up running off my boat trying to take up all the stretch.

+1 for P Line CXX. I use everything from 8# to 20#. This is for casting reels or leaders on spinning tackle. Too stiff for spinning reel main line but I've gone almost 100% braid with leader for them anyway.
