I hit a rock pile and annihilated my skeg in my brand new z20 today. Haha someone had a water bottle tied to it as a warning but I guess I missed that memo. So Im sure there are some interesting stories out there concerning skeg destruction so whats yours?

No. I’m actually pretty careful. Chip up a prop from beaching every once in a while. But haven’t broken stuff on the motor....yet.....on this boat. Haha

I got mine caught in the top of a tree on Monticello while idling.. Broke a little piece of it off..

I got mine in to a piece of concrete structure that normally would be in 25' of water but the lake I fished back Georgia was at winter pool.. which was about 20' down. I had seen it on my graph but didn't know what it was, until I got into with the lower unit. Took a pretty good chunk out of the skeg and scratched up the blades of my prop. It didn't mess up my lower unit but was not a fun time.

Well i hope it never happens. I hit whatever it was not going very fast and couldn't believe how much damage it did. We concluded it had to be rocks not a tree.

Point on RR Westside of the lake. I wasn't familiar with that side and still not!! It did scare me a touch. Just a little skag repair from McGills in Lewisville. They do good work and the price is better than most.

Drug one up a ramp once. Luckily it just scrapped a little off the bottom. Nothing a file couldn't fix.

Which time? I got a skeg gard on mine now .Seen many drug up the ramp. Sounds like an early insurance claim already on her. Take it somewhere and get in line in my opinion/

First one was many years ago while running the Corona river on lake Guerrero in an old Skeeter Starfire, Never felt any collision, the boat just went to sliding around in the river bends. Got back to La Isla, put it on the trailer and the entire skeg was broken off flush with the bullet. Next was on Livingston, just cleared the timber leaving Kickapoo creek, cruising about 50 and whacked a stump so hard it knocked the cowling off that Mercury, the boat came to an abrupt stop and the cowling landed in my wife's lap. Last time she's been in a boat with me. Knocked about half the front portion of the skeg off. Never fixed it and as far as I know that old Nitro is still out running around with a long skinny skeg.

I did that once so I would look cool and fit in with the ramp crowd.

unfortunately it was a tournament and I got in a hurry, not much damage to the skeg but did get everyone's attention with the noise.

Knocked plenty of skegs off but no good stories behind the incidents.

At Tower Bay ramp on Lewisville with an oddly relevant wind. Backed in the trailer and was waiting on buddy to drive the boat on. Strong gust got the boat misaligned a few feet away. Buddy panicked and instead of throttling backwards he gave it gas forward. Front end of boat went over trailer and landed on ramp. Skeg sheared off when it struck rear end of trailer. Motor was a Yamaha Sho barely broke in.

Good news was that McGills charged less than $200 and had it fixed the next afternoon. Still looks great.

Rest of boat was okay - keel guard helped. That buddy has not been behind the wheel since.

Was that Walter George/Eufaula? They're lowering it now to work on the dam.

Relatable story for ya- captained a high school team for an event on lake Houston 3 years ago. The plan was to put in at Deussen and start on the south end. First cast was 6am and we arrived to Deussen at 5am to find out they don’t open the gate until 6. So I drove all the way around to put in at lake Houston marina. Running just on plane and following the river channel on my graph slammed into something and came to a complete stop a couple of hundred yards from the railroad track. Toasted prop and bent prop shaft. It was most definitely concrete and should not have been there. Couple grand later and I have sworn to never launch on that lake again. And I will not.

What's the going rate for minor skeg and prop repair?

The skeg wasn't enough for me. I tore off the whole lower unit. In deep East Texas milk jugs mark trot lines, in this part of Texas they mark stump fields.
First time and only time in 30+ years.

Yep did that too, also lowered the motor one time at the car wash and forgot to raise it back up prior to leaving.
