Valley Lake Ranch - 08/13/20 11:30 PM

Does anybody know much about this place? I was looking at google maps and saw a body of water west of Lake Bonham I wasn't familiar with. Eventually found this website, and apparently the 1000 acre body of water has some really nice fish in it. Looks like a 2500 acre "ranch," but just not sure why a 1000 acre lake exists on it. Looks like it was for sale in 2018 for $24.5 mil. If it hasn't sold, I was thinking about calling and putting in a lowball offer. $20g or so. Negotiate from there... roflmao

I'd never heard of it. Seems like a big body of water to be private and undeveloped.

Hey, they're doing it to Monticello too, unfortunately!

I know the lake well. I grew up fishing it in the 80's as a kid. The lake has always been private (but back then it was not hard to get a landowner to give you access). It was a generating power plant up until 5 or 10 years ago. The stories I could tell fishing here. Legendary fishing. In fact, Ray Sasser wrote an article about the lake n the Dallas Morning News in the 80's. He re-ran the story about 10 years ago. I wish I had the article. It was an article about a tube fisherman catching over 100 lbs of fish with 10 fish at the hot water discharge in a tube with waders. The guy had a picture of the stringer of fish; to prove it.

I do not recall which Power company owns it. But it has been on the market for a couple of years. I think they have a buyer. Ironically I inquired on the status of the lake a couple of days ago with Horenstine Ranch the listing broker.

There have been a few folks who have been fishing the lake over the last couple years and have done well. But, it's private and all locked up. So, no getting on. I'm sure it will sell to a developer, but I would love to see it sell to an individual who would lease it. What a dream that would be.

Interesting, didn’t realize it wasn’t generating anymore.
Any updates on what the new owner of old Van City Lake is planning?
Only guessing that they started with working on the dam repairs.

Good and painful point.
