Need help.. Skeeter hydraulics

Need help.. Skeeter hydraulics - 07/27/20 06:59 PM

Our hydraulics went out and our motor was unable to trim up. We had to manually release the pressure and lift the motor to get the trans and saver on. But it appears that the hydraulic fluid is leaking out. how would we troubleshoot from here? One of the pistons in the hydraulics is popped out and one is still in. [Linked Image]

See that cap with the plus sign on it. Remove it and add fluid. Seals are probably bad in those two cylinders and need to be replaced first.

I was having tilt issues on a old unit but it ended up correcting itself. But was looking at these guys for rebuild because of the warranty offered and the cost to pay to have repaired by shop or buying a replacement unit. Didn’t use them but you may want to research this option if you don’t want to try to fix yourself. Just have to pull the unit and ship it to them.

And your gonna need that special little tool that fits that cap. I just did mine too. When you get the new seals and O rings be sure you get the new O ring and plastic spacer that goes on the piston as well as the ones for the cap

As previously mentioned, the seals have gone bad. You can find the seals that you need online. There are plenty of youtube videos that show how to change them out. Its a little involved but you can do it. I did mine, and I'm certainly not a mechanic.

Another thing is to be real sure your pistons are smooth with no dents or burrs. Cause this will tear up the new seals

It's not hard to replace and rebuild yourself and you can save a lot of money doing so.

Check out Marine Tech Tools for the proper tools and instruction to do the job yourself.

To make it easy to fill the cylinder with hydraulic fluid, get you a squeeze bottle like these and it make it super easy.

Just get the whole cap and piston kit from yamaha and the spanner wrench. Your piston ends are myshroomed looking at the pic so you wont be able to remove caps to install nee seals. You can grind on them if you want but imo that will cause more issues. I just did mine and got the piston kit from Plano marine. Easy install and wont be a issue again for several years. I have a 2006 zx225
