Don’t discount trolling either! I used to fish walleye before moving to Texas in ‘06 and I was surprised to find nobody trolls deep cranks for bass down here. Some of my best bass have come trolling crankbaits on points and Creek channels in the summer and fall. It’s not just a matter of dragging baits behind a boat mindlessly. Running lures at precise depths, across multiple angles to hit key spots on the spot takes careful boat control and close attention to electronics. Speed can be an essential component too. Sometimes 3 mph is the ticket. Sometimes 1.5. The advantage is you can cover lots of water to identify key spots, then slow down and extract fish with jigs or Carolina rigs of you want. Tournaments don’t allow trolling because it is effective and efficient. But it’s the best way to keep your lures in the water and at a constant depth. And that can be crucial for pressured bass.
This right here is good advice.....Also long lining cranks over these areas have been awesome over the years. 1 cast make take you 10 minutes but it can be worth it.... And having 300 series reels that hold a lot of line. I'll also do the same thing with large swimbaits. Lots of time getting it down there but the payoff can be good.
And I just got back from Lake Erie catching 10#+ walleye in 30-40ft of water. I couldn't wait to get back to Texas and start doing the same here for some big bass. I'll be somewhere Saturday doing this very thing.... Then I'll get board and go frog fishing
