Skeeter ZX 190 - 06/07/20 07:25 PM

Anybody own the ZX 190 or fished out of one? Pros and cons of the boat. I have always had Bass Cat, but looking at a couple options.

I have a 2012 ZX 190. It is a little small for two people (even with a single console). Also, a little rough on windy days. For a guy that usually fishes by himself, it would be great for that.

I have a 2014 TZX 195 with a 175. It's a great rig! I normally fish by myself but it's always got the job done for me. Fully loaded it'll do 60.

I had a 2012 ZX190. I now have a 2018 ZX250.
I had mine 6 years and it was a great boat. My partner and I won a lot of money out of that boat. For smaller lakes it is great. After you learn to drive it you can smooth out most of the bumps. It fishes great being very stable. I eventually upgraded to the larger boat since I fish on bigger water now and need the extra length and fuel capacity.
2012 through 2014 the ZX190 were smaller versions of the bigger boats. They were well appointed with no expense spared. All three years were basically the same. 2013 they introduced different fuel caps and in 2014 they replaced the rod bungees with straps.
The TZX 190 was the same hull but a different top cap that was all fiberglass. The consoles were smaller for smaller graphs and the driver side glove box was deleted. Where the ZX190 had two center compartments and an ice chest between the seats, the TZX190 had one center compartment and the other was the ice chest - you lost one compartment. On either boat the rod lockers were large and can take rods up to 8 ft. The ZX190 had two fuel tanks for 32 gallons where the TZX190 had one tank for 25 gallons.
In 2015 they discontinued the ZX190 and released a whole new design in 2016 - it lasted one model year. For model years 2017-2020 they rebranded the TZX190 into the ZX190.
It looks like they resurrected the 2016 boat, made some updates and reintroduced it now as the ZX150.

It is a great rig! Essentially it's a ZX200 with a 175 motor and TZX consoles and a much better price. Everything else on that boat is ZX200. It was a one model year, price point boats to deplete the stocks of 175 HPDI motors to make room for the new 150/175 HP SHOs.

I run a 2016 ZX190 with a 175SHO and love the boat. Yes it can be a little small at times but it fishes awesome.

The 2016 I have has the same deck layout as the larger boats with the big center storage compartment and port and starboard rod lockers. The cooler is between the driver and passenger seat, again like the larger ZX models.

I’ve seen the 2017-2019 models and if I had to buy one I would strongly look at the ZX200 or find the same model I have as I do not like those layouts. The ZX150 looks similar to mine but I believe it has split center deck compartments.

The thing I love best about the ZX190 is that it fits in my suburban garage with is not big at all. I did not want to pay for storage.

I have a 2019 skeeter zx190 and I love it, but I came from a 94 17 foot ranger. I got mine with a 150 sho. After I changed the prop to a 23p tempest plus I can get 57 with 2 people and a full tank. It fishes plenty big and stable enough for me. And so far it’s been great in rough water. Takes a little driving, but it ain’t a big boat. Only con I would say is storage.

Bought a 2002 ZX190 new and owned it until I sold it last year. 18+ years and it was an AWESOME boat. Dual console made it small for two fishermen but otherwise was an incredible boat. Plenty of storage. Yamaha 150 would do 60+ easy. Carpets were in great shape up the day I sold it. Gel stress cracking was kept to a minimum. Biggest complaint I ever had was the ice chest being under the passenger seat. Only reason I sold it was to get a larger Skeeter to accomodate a growing family.

It's still a good boat!

Old thread caught my attention formula462! Thanks for the note-I was hoping it was providing you as much enjoyment as it did for me. Love my new skeeter but there are days when I'm struggling trying to squeeze into a tight fishing spot (or my garage) that I really miss that 190.

I own a 2007 ZX-190 and I love it. There are times I wish there was more space but I can carry everything needed pretty easy. I can get into tight and shallow spots a lot easier than a big boat. I have been on the lake when the wind blows hard and I get just as wet as someone in a bigger boat. I do, however, hate getting outrun down the lake. I guess there is still a little "Kid" in me.
It runs great, handles great, still looks great. I'm happy with ol' LUCKY!!!!

I had a 2011 and loved my 190. With that said I think the 07-12 “maybe off a year or so” were tournament ready. Standard with pump in and pump out, lighted compartments, larger gas tanks, rod holders, and aluminum decking. I think skeeter watered them down to make people buy up to the larger more equipped boats. Personally, that boat performs very well in timber and docks... I would say the only draw back “minus the obvious size” is having to max the motor out to get 55 mph... which significantly reduces gas mileage.

I’m not a tackle junkie so there was plenty of room for me, and could easily fit 15 rods In starboard side up 7’3 or so...
