Media Bass Lake Fork

Media Bass Lake Fork - 05/10/20 12:19 AM

I'm not one to complain publicly but I'm not impressed at all with the new tournament director for Media bass series on Fork. Yes I know he owes Media bass and he is a really nice guy but dang he was unorganized today and manny people were upset. I prepay for the entire year so I can get a early launch time in order to take advantage of the morning bite and shad spawn, which generally last 30 to 45 minutes if you're lucky. This morning we didn't start to launch until after 35-40 minutes after safe light! needless to say the shad spawn was gone by the time we started and 2 of the spots we wanted to start at had boats on them. Why the delay? Well for starters he hadn't even set up his speaker and he and another guy debated where they were going to set it up and where to have the boat check at. They picked the short dock that was full of boats instead of the long dock for some reason. The long dock had people on it all day and was safe but he didn't use it. Why not have the boat check beforehand then do a numbered launch? We had a low number but yet had boats in the 70's right by the boat check area. It's a cluisterf$*k. If you continue to do it this way how about some instructions for the people to stay far away until their boat number gets closer, but please don't be longwinded! I've fished Media for over 10 years and I have never been so aggravated by the way a tournament is ran. Even the weigh in took forever because he has to talk talk and talk some more. Bass champs has over 300 boats and gets done with weigh inn faster then this. I will have to reconsider fishing this series next year. Bring back David Haas! We still got a decent check so I'm not scorned just irritated beyond belief. When you pre-fish all week to find a great morning shad spawn bite just to have this happen it's annoying as hell!

Rant over, sorry! Now I'm ready for the backlash from y'all. lol

Damn, it was a grind today.

I agree with most of what you said about today’s event. Things were very unorganized compared to his first two Fork events. I was also hoping to catch fish with the shad spawn and arrived 20 minutes too late. Hopefully he gets better and things get consistent as he gets use to Fork events.

As far as fishing it was a tough day but we had one lucky bite that got us 2nd place and big bass. It weighed 9.23 on the tournament scale.

Congrats, I saw that fish and it was beautiful! Keep it up and y'all may be fishing for free again next year!

Was it Gordon running it? He does the central and you can forgot about the early bite on a shad spawn. He is notorious for dragging his feet and launching late.

Yes it is him and that's very unfortunate.

Might as well get used to it. Been fishing with Gordon since he started media, it's always been this way with him.

Very slow start yesterday and the weigh in is painfully slow.

Also...they need to measure more of these fish. I think I saw him measure one over yesterday, no unders. That approach will get taken advantage of. Some really nice 16” fish in that holding tank yesterday!

I fished one Media on Fork about 15 years ago, I waited over one hour to see who won the T after everyone had weighed in.

I was done with Media after that

I agree also. I fished cedar creek central this year and everything is slow!

Not real sure why Media hasn't gone the way of Bud light trail, they have drawn low #'s for years. Theres a couple local businesses I could never figure how they stayed open as they got little to no business and had very poor customer service, one was aquarium fish store, the other was an archery shop and they both turned out to be money laundering operations.

They have several divisions that draw 40 to 60 boats an event.
That is way above what bud light ever drew. I think they do a pretty good job as a regional trail.
As far as taking to long I have experience this. Usually it is a lot of early morning entries showing up. In my opinion those guys should have to wait to pay up when it becomes time for the tournament to start and the TD can come back to them after he gets everyone that prepaid or showed up plenty early and are on the water. Also have experienced TDS waiting for everyone to get on the water and O also say tough chore to that show up earlier. A lot of guys show up about 15 or 20 minutes before an event to launch.
That all said in the past few years we’ve been pretty lucky out here in the west. We had Tommy then Jason and they do a dang good job.

Media has always had a rather late take off. You just have to plan your fishing accordingly

Re: Media Bass Lake Fork - 05/11/20 12:59 PM

Safe light is determined by the tournament director, the guy who everyone wants to sue when something bad happens. All the real trails tend to wait... just be glad you weren’t fishing a number draw tournament and ended up boat 300. Lol.

The comment about making morning of entries wait is the most comical thing on this thread. If you make $20+ per boat plus membership fees there should be an additional staff member signing people up while the TD launches boats. We’re not talking about an open that joe blow is running off his tailgate. The Media events around the Metroplex are all this way, TD will be down at the dock checking livewells and calling boat numbers while one of his staff members signs up day of entrants. We may be a little spoiled around here though, our TD is freaking AWESOME!!

Saturday and Sunday we were fishing the Shad spawn till about 8am or so... if your only getting 20-30 min your spot oriented not Shad spawn oriented.

This is my 13th year fishing Media Fork so I guess for me it must not be too bad. +1 on Tommy he's the best TD. Gordon is just hard headed and he will never change there is a bunch I don't agree with him on and it was painfully slow this past Saturday. I love fishing Media's championship series and that is the main reason I stick around
