Tawakoni 5/2/20 - 05/04/20 03:08 PM
Fished Saturday from 7:00-2:00. Water stained, 73 degrees. Winds 15+ from the South.
Started the morning in Jones Creek. Caught a 2.5 lber at about 8:00 on a brush hog. Braved the wind and moved to the midlake cove I had fished last weekend. Ended up with two 3 lbers and a 4-3. All on brush hogs in bushes, except for one dink caught on bluegill pattern crankbait.
The ride back to the state park on the South shoreline was sketchy to say the least (3+' waves across the entire main lake, and I'm in a 17' boat). No crowd at the ramp, which was greatly appreciated.

The two closest brushes with death I've had on the water were both at Tawakoni. That's an angry lake when the wind is up. Lots of ramps out there. Pick a section of lake and launch and stay there and avoid the main lake if the wind says 15 or higher. Lots of fish to be caught all over that lake.Well done Drew

Sounds like a fun day of fishing.
I had nearly the exact same rough water experience out there about 7 years ago. Had just got my previous boat (1 year old Legend Alpha 199). It was the maiden voyage and my cousin came with me that day to practice for Champs which was the next weekend. We launched in State park knowing there was a big front coming later in the day which was forecast to hit about 3:00. We had run East and were in Cedar and had been hitting all the pockets and flooded willows. Then about 11:30 we say, what's that noise, all realized that front was 3 hours early. Wind was howling NW at about 30. We decided its time to run the gauntlet back to State Park. Just like you - there were 3 footers. Funniest part is we make it across with just some white knuckles and elevated heart rates only to relax as I point the boat South towards the ramp and WHOOSSH....speared a wave in 10' of water and we were both soaked and the bilge pumps took care of the rest.

Does anyone know if the ramp in Cedar Cove is open?

Where are the areas of the lake that timber is bad where you don’t want to run?

Someone posted this several years back. Awesome lake, I need to get over there more often!

I used the above map for obstacle avoidance as well.

Jones Creek feeds into Soutwest branch of the lake. Due West of the state park.

The "lane" between those trees is what we ran that day from Cedar back to the State Park.

Are some of the stumps in those areas visible?

I realize that Mark, I mean you can see we where the lanes are through the timber

Thanks for the help Mark.
We’ll probably steer clear of the stumpy areas, just meeting family there for surprise Mothers Day “NO-RONA” weekend and don’t know where to avoid...or where to fish, but looking forward to just having a good time with my people
