My new ride

My new ride - 04/09/20 12:10 AM

Many years ago we had the biggest truck camper Lance made. Loved it for hauling my bass boat around. But 3 boys later we ended up seeing the United States in a 5th wheel. This poor old fireman put 3 kids through college(one med school) and now they are all out and on their own. Talked my wife back into another truck camper. Crazy how they have evolved. Double slide outs and roomy as a motor home. Hard to believe you’re standing in the bed of your truck. HVAC, generator....even a sofa/recliner. Excuse the unmade bed. Last minute deal. Many thousands less than anyone else would sell it to me and no out of state sales tax in Ohio. Would I buy an RV in Ohio? No! Would I drive to Ohio for $8,000+ in savings? Heck ya! Last minute run to Ohio by myself. 2000 round trip in 3 days. Oh, the unmade bed: had to pull over and sleep(camp) in a Walmart parking lot with the other “campers”. I’m getting to old for this. :-) Bassboat going with us more now. New fish camp! [Linked Image]

Re: My new ride - 04/09/20 01:15 AM

Very nice and good find on the deal in OH!
They are much more than the older campers in amenities, space and price!
I Recently picked up a super clean 2017 Eagle Cap triple slide and absolutely love it. I had rather take it than my fifth wheel.
How high is you shop door that allows you to back in with the camper loaded?

Re: My new ride - 04/09/20 01:56 AM

Smurfs, it’s a Lance 1172. Danny, the last couple shops I’ve had over the last many years had 12’ doors. My barndominium has 14’ tall exterior walls and I actually put 13’ tall doors in the front. Good thing. The AC sits a couple inches over 12’ on my truck. I’m very familiar w/Eagle Cap. They make a beautiful and a real nice camper(and heavy, as if any of them are light). The floor being above the bed rails in the EC makes an even taller camper. FYI: you can put a 13’ tall door in a 14’ wall. We built this overlooking Wheeler Branch Reservoir outside Glen Rose: [Linked Image]

Ha! Thanks. Didn’t realize that bass mount was in those pics. You can see a table mount on a piece of driftwood through one of the camper windows. It’s sitting on a gun safe out in shop with my truck tailgate leaning against the safe. lt’s not a replica. It is a 10lb bass I caught on Houston County Lake over 30years ago. Back when it was politically correct to kill a fish for decoration purposes! laugh [Linked Image]

Absolutely the way to go, I've loved mine....I had the truck and camper up for sale and pulled it back, couldn't stand not having it. I may put them back up again, looking at some class Bs.

Are you sure that’s not a coronavirus statistic wrapped in a bedsheet and waiting for removal?

Re: My new ride - 04/09/20 10:18 PM

Do you guys just keep it on the truck the whole time you're camping, or are you able to set it and drive out from under it? My wife would be pizzed if I woke her up early every morning rockin down the boat ramp.

Either way. Electric jacks. As you get used to it it’s about 5 min off and 10-15 minutes to load. It’s designed to stay in camper while off truck and on jacks. For me? If I’m staying only a day or two I prefer to leave it on the truck but if longer or lots of side trips? Off it comes.

Yep. 2000 miles by myself in 3 days. Had to go “glamping” in the Walmart parking lot for a few hours. Getting to old to hang!
