Lightest 200 series baitcaster?

Lightest 200 series baitcaster? - 03/17/20 01:52 PM

I'm an old school guy and still fish several 200b greenies for crankbaits. Have updated over the last 3 or 4 years for flipping reels and a few other smaller use reel techniques. Current lineup includes K series Curados, some Lew's speed spools, and two new Tatula's. But, I still like the line capacity of the 200 series. Anyone still using the bigger versions with some feedback on weight and preference?

Kind of Apples vs Oranges Randy but I really like the Daiwa Steez reels. They hold a ton of line and work great. You don't really notice the ounce differenece until the end of the day and you've been fishing with the Curado and you pick up the same rod with a Steez on it.

Still wished they made the 51/50 MG and then put the old CU200 deep spool in them.

I like the Chronarch 150, it's kinda the best of both worlds.

My Steez reels are 200 series and pretty light. They are the older non-twing versions. I have a few of the Lews Team Lews Pros that are 201’s and almost as light as a Steez.

Guessing if I bought a Steez I would regret doing it. Just like I regret ever fishing with a GLX rod I bought recently. I used to be perfectly happy with $100 rods and I am perfectly happy with Curados. Better stick with Curados or that will cost me a bunch of money replacing reels just like that stupid GLX did. I just bought my first NRX...

This one looks promising too if it holds enough line.

Team Lew’s Custom Pro Speed Spool SLP
Built on Lew’s new and exclusive SLP Super Low Profile platform, making it compact, powerful and loaded. It is Lew’s lowest profile design ever, weighs only 5.8 ounces, sits super low in the reel seat and provides unmatched balance. Made possible by SLP cutting-edge engineering, styling and performance, the Team Lew’s Custom Pro is 10 percent smaller than traditional Speed Spools, yet has all of the top-of-the-line features.

Uh oh. 110yds of 12lb. too small. Dang.

That's the problem with most of the super light reels. They don't hold enough line to suit me. It is a personal preference. What I do know is that I can load up my Steez with 20 Flo and make a long bombing cast with a 1 oz jig and still have some line left on the reel.

I hear ya Bass Buster. They are addicting. Here's my take for what its worth.

For soft plastics and/or jigs I want the lightest most sensitive rod I can find. The GLX is about as good as it gets. Yes the NRX and the Conquest may be a tiny bit more sensitive but I'm not sure its "worth" the extra scratch to go up from the GLX. I do have a new 7' Heavy Conquest and it may be the finest rod I have ever used. It is certainly one of the lightest 7' Heavy action rods I have ever picked up. Is it "worth" $650?? Not sure yet. I haven't leaned on it hard enough to know. A rod has to be more than just featherlight to be worth such a premium.

I have several old IMX rods and they are like GOLD to me. It is a workhorse. Light, sensitive and unbreakable. They replaced them with a new model called IMX Pro and I do not like it as well. It feels tip heavy to me even with the same reel. I tell folks if they don't want to spend the money on a GLX or above not to buy a Loomis. There are a LOT of rods in the Under $200 price point that are just as light & sensitive as the IMX.

Right there with ya Ken. That's why I'm looking for the higher capacity reels, but still as light as my old arse can get! LOL. Thanks for the feedback! And nice one of CB by the way!

I have 2 of the 6.4 and am impressed with them, line capacity was a key factor. 2 of the 5.1 and at least another 6.4 in the future.
