Amistad - 03/02/20 03:44 AM

Two educators will be heading down for Spring Break and can’t wait. We head out March 8th. Does anybody have any info that could help us out? We are familiar with the lake, but definitely not any current patterns as we are 7 hours away and only make the trip once a year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you don’t want to share publicly, I would appreciate it if you could send me a message. Thanks in advance!

I read that they will be letting water out of the lake, so expect dropping water everyday. Not sure if that’ll help you or hurt you.

(Local rumor) this weekend was they will be dropping it about 2 ft per week starting this week.
Caught fish from 40 ft to 4ft this weekend-- drop shot to square bill.. my guess is by the 8th there will be a lot of fish shallow and many on beds.
Sounds like once again there going to drop the lake off any shallow beds.

Big front had just went thru. Lowest I saw was 54 on Thur. by Sunday afternoon main lake was 57 58 on my gauge. I'm sure there was warmer water in the backs of some coves.

Just a heads up. The Diablo East ramp might be crowded the 11th-14th. There is a BASS Nation state Championship going out of there that usually has around 100 boats.

Not meant to be a smart azz but you really don’t know how it works on Amistad and Falcon do you? Never mind......actually nobody knows exactly how this whole border water thing works!

Thanks for the info so far: water being let out, Dialblo could be busy. Anybody have anything as to the bite? I’m hoping the warming trend speeds things up down there by next week.

Yup, seems Mexico takes however much water it wants when it wants no matter the lake level. Seems to ruin the spawn every years.

That’s the way Mexico works, they take more than they are supposed. Flood warnings below the damn make keep the swimmers from trying to come across is the only good thing.

Is there any grass? I’m headed down there Tuesday. I haven’t been down there since April of last year.

More grass than there are fish to populate it. Its not everywhere and I even saw a few places that had grass last fall but not now.

Go to texasobserver/ on the border struggle over water and read. Quite interesting, Apparently we screw Mexico on releases from the Colorado river
