That was the craziest thing I’ve seen. Would you get in to get that fish?

It was awesome but no, I wouldn't do it myself. Call me a sissy, but it's a no from me

For those who haven't watched it yet.

I would have sent my lure retriever down to see if it would knock it off.

I watched it live and actually thought it was a dangerous risk to take. I'm surprised nobody advised against it in 55-57 degree water, main lake with waves. He was very lucky the fish swam out cause if he would've dove down to get it anything could happen. Imagine something terrible happening like getting caught on a trotline in that pile or something weird like that and drowning on live.

Depends. Younger me, with money on the line...probably.

Current me, risk averse and not fishing tournaments or caring that my friends back home would give me a hard time (which he mentioned in the post-round interview), probably not.

I totally agree. I lost an anchor at jetties one time and had lost 2 in previous weeks so I decided its a nice hot summer day, Ill aqua man it. The haywire bale of mono, hooks, cast nets etc all around it quickly made me change my mind about that and again this was summer time.

I thought same about him not coming back up if he went down, I did not see him grab a dexter russel like you see a lot of guys have in a scabbard on their chest on shows like deadliest catch. These have saved more than a few lives for those who have the cool head to cut themselves out. I know 1 personally.

that was dumb and not needed to land that fish

Re: Avena - 02/12/20 06:15 PM

I'm with Jarerett. That's a pretty stupid decision in my opinion. Eay wat to get yourself killed and no amount of money is worth dying over. Don't care if its summertime or wintertime. All it takes is one errant hook grabbing you in that pile and your done.

Ah, youth and exuberance! I remember that from a long time ago.

What if the ultrex went nuts and went right over him as he came up. That was my first thought

Re: Avena - 02/12/20 07:52 PM

In 1972 I was fishing a club tournament. Water temp mid 40s. My partner hooked a 5 lb fish and got hung in lily pads. That was a huge fish in Indiana. Without thinking I jumped in and got his fish. I was 21 at the time. He won the tournament and I got disqualified for leaving the boat. I did get the sportman of the year award that year. I'll never forget the shock of that cold water. Very hard to breathe.

Dumb move...too dangerous IMO

Re: Avena - 02/12/20 10:11 PM

The fish freed itself. All it needed was slack line, the angler just wasted time and risked his life

Crazy and good thing it wasn't a crankbait when he slid his toes down that line and gotten them toes caught cause I'm thinking he comes back with only 4 toes!
