How many people use custom rods

I was wondering how many people use custom fishing rods for bass fishing

Sort of. I find old Falcon Cara series rods and customize them the way I want them. I am pretty much set now so it's been a while since I have had one done. I change the grips, reel seat if needed, and change all the eyes to the size I like. I have never had a rod built from scratch but it's about the same thing. It' s basically about the blank you like.

I've built rods for many years. Even before graphite was a "thing" (yes ... I'm an old fart). In my opinion there is no factory rod out there that can compete with a purpose built custom rod. And I am not saying that trying to make a sale. I don't have time nor desire to build for resale.

I make my rods, not that I am a professional, it is just a fun hobby and great to catch a fish on the rod you made. It is not a cheap way to go; I cannot buy a good blank, seat, grips and guides for what you can buy a decent rod for. But it is customized and quality built when I finish.

Build my own and sell to a select few people as well. Finishing up one on an Immortal blank tonight.

I use fairly inexpensive rods - All Star Classic mainly.

Since some jack hole took most of my rods and all of my tackle a couple of years ago, 90% of mine are now custom made by a coworker. It’s great to get exactly what you want and not just settle. Unless you’re going straight low end factory rods, you can get a MUCH better custom for the money!

Custom rods for specific duties are the ticket.

I have got 2 rods I had built left in my arsenal. But honestly I found it hard to beat the newer rods especially the BPS Carbon lites.

I have a few $550 rods with carbon fiber guides, etc. I mainly use, and prefer, my Academy Ethis Nano rods. They are simply just as good and the ACS reel seat is more comfortable. They might be .1 oz heavier and maybe slightly tip heavy, but they are fish catching machines. And an easy walk in walk out warranty with no questions asked.

I have a few custom rods, but the issue with custom rods if you break it it's all over with for that one. Most come with no warranty.

I have built a few custom rods for myself, children, and grandchildren. I can statically test the rods to ensure the guides are in the proper place and make sure the spine is aligned. Different color thread is used to indicate the power of the rods. Such as blue for med light, red for med heavy. At a glance you can tell what rods are on the deck. Getting into the rod building is fairly inexpensive. You can order a starter kit form different rod building suppliers. Mud Hole is probably one of the largest, but there are others. There are many you-tube vids that will help you build through the process. It is also a lot of fun to do the marbling that makes it a one of a kind.

I have a few and love them...if only I could find someone building on Rainshadow blanks that could build like my old builder. Maybe its time I pick up the trade.

Man, I wish I was! I could have 8 rods for the price of those two alone. I wanted them though. Now I can say I’ve had some ultra high end stuff and know that it isn’t what catches the fish. I have really calmed down a bit from what my screen name implies. Now I’d be ShimanoMan or something. IDK.

I’m going all custom it’s nice getting what you want and how you want it. Choose from what guides you want what type of reel seat and grips.
