Jig Bite

I don't know about ya'll, but a jig is one of my favorite lures to catch bass on. But I've noticed that a lot of people shy away from it, so I thought I would offer a little bit of wisdom on the subject.

Lot of difference between the technique to fish that swimming jig and a regular jig. Just saying; and I like both styles. All the slow moving presentations are my favorite during bad conditions and cold water. Take into consideration the 20 or more types of jig heads and how to effectively fish them and we have a lot of learning to do. I enjoyed the article. Thanks for sharing.

Like I bet a bunch of other guys on here, I don't fish a jig nearly as much as I used to. Theres other stuff that come ahead of a jig.

I almost always have a box of jigs on the boat but I usually find something else I want to throw. I always will believe its a big bass
bait and produces more quality fish than anything else. So why don't I throw it more?

I used to fish a flipping jig quite a bit at Lake Fork when it had good grass in it and they would hit a jig. With the lack of grass the jig bite has slowed way down for me out there. I still keep them in the boat at all times but just don't fish it much. I agree, it is a big fish bait but something I learned years ago, you just can't force feed them a jig. If they aren't interested in it they just won't bite it. Then it is time to try something else. I liked fishing a jig so much that I even started making my own jig skirts just to experiment with different colors.

My favorite bait to fish. ALWAYS have one tied on and ALWAYS throw one when I go fishing. May not get bit, but I'll give er a shot just to make sure. Bigger bass.

Good advice. I enjoyed reading. I love fishing a jig. If I am catching them on a T-rig or C-rig or even a crankbait, I will throw the jig out there and give it a whirl.

I was at Comodero last Feb and we were catching them in 20' of water on a deep crankbait off rocky points. I rigged up a 1 oz tilapia colored jig with a 4.75" Rage Swimmer. I would throw it out, let it hit bottom then crank it fast 5-6 times and kill it for a second or two. I caught my two biggest fish on that setup fishing it in place of the deep crank and it was easier on my wrists to fish than the big crank.
