Yep, I'm sure that's what happened - wasn't paying attention...
Accidents happen.

I kicked the habit! Over 5 years clean and hope to keep it that way. Probably helps that I only fish the lake 2-3 times a year now....

You have to compensate for the rotation of the earth as you line up to go in.

I made my one and only run from Hubbard into the river back in the late 80's... to this day I remember the pucker factor while running that flat approaching the entrance... my skeg had to be slicing through the mud bottom... then,... when you're approaching the entrance (and I was guessing where it was at)you make that hard right turn to cross over the river channel bank (at the time, I'm guessing about 1 foot on top of the bank edge),... then you make a hard left to stay in the river and not hit the bank on the other side.. Fishing was good, caught several in the expected places...lay downs, channel bends, etc....…. and then to get out.... you had to get up on plane in the river channel and make a hard right turn and cross that river channel bank again...…. all of those turns were blind.... that was in an 18' foot Ranger... so I had to be going a good speed to get that heavy boat up on plane... I was lucky... that was stupid... never again...

I remember being an Observer for the PAA tournament on Hubbard in 2011. Day 2 with Terry Butcher we were in the parade of boats going up the river. These were mostly first timers on the lake but obviously got good paths from the locals to get in and the water level was good. It was wild being in a parade of 20+ boats all running in there on plane with about 15 yards in between each boat.

I've known TB since he was a teenager, great guy and that dude will go anywhere if he thinks there's a spinnerbait bite in there!

Been there but have not done that. Never ventured up that way when the water was low.
I will not be going back that far anymore. I will stop at golf course point and watch others go by.
