Trilene XT replacement?

Trilene XT replacement? - 11/26/19 06:40 PM

I've been out of the loop for several years and am just getting back involved. Need some opinions......

I fished Trilene XT in 8, 12, and 20 pound tests for many years. It served me well. It was tough but still very manageable.

Now that Berkley isn't making it in clear/blue fluorescent anymore, I'm searching for a new line.

I hate braid and have no interest in going that direction.

I need a clear/blue line that will show in blacklights but I hate the orange and other colored line. I understand that this will limit my options.

I've seen Stren (too stretchy), McCoy, and P-Line and might consider those.

Any suggestions that you may have about a comparable line would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to Texas fishing soon. Sure looks different from the Tennessee smallmouths I hunted.

Big Game is great line. But do they offer it in fluorescent?

I like Big Game too. Most of my reels are spooled with it.

Stren Clear Blue. Been using it for over forty five years and it is still best IMHO.

McCoy and PLine are your only options....you have ruled out the other three. Two others are braid and one other is Sten.

P-Line CX premium. its a fluoro coated copolymer that is strong yet manageable like trilene xt.

P-Line CX Premium has a great clear blue florescent.

PLine CXX in fluorescent clear (visible in black light) for 8 and 12lb test

I would not use CXX above 12lb test as mainline—incredibly strong and not very stretchy is great in 8 and 12lb test; but above 12lb becomes a coiling maintenance issue

For above 15lb test mono as mainline in clear/blue fluorescent, I’d go with Stren in clear/blue. I agree that Stren is stretchy in 14lb test and under, but their 20lb is good

For about 40 yrs I didn't know there was anything else besides big game.
A few months ago I purchased a spool of green BG 17#, and the line would break
During the cast, my uni knot , or clinch knot would come undone on hookset.
Or the lure kept going and the line would go slack. Palomar would hold.
When I Spooled my reel I noticed that there were rough Burrs, and the line wasn't smooth.
I pulled off that rough stretch and trashed it.
So I'm giving ande a shot. So far so good.

It’s not easy to find but I use Mason’s bass on line

Try you a spool of the 17lb charcoal.

This seems to be your only other choice because you said you wanted blue florescent line. PLine CX premium is good line.
