What is your second favorite type of fishing?
For me it’s smallmouth bass in rivers. Going for a float in a drift boat.
Never could warm up to fly fishing

LMB are second. Them Brown fish are first. Fly rod or conventional tackle and preferably in Ontario province Canada. Drift boats are great and even better with fly tackle.

I've only done it once, but the big snook were a game changer. I couldn't believe how strong they were. My forearms were cramping up at the end of the trip.
I like wading for red's. They put up a great battle

This. Used to go to Venice, LA to chase them every year. Then kids were born....

On the lake - whites/hybrids/stripers. They are great practice for offshore fishing and are less finicky (usually) than largemouth can be. I started out initially fishing on that side of things and have made my way over to fishing for largies. Helped a lot with having confidence fishing offshore. Also, they run in schools and you usually catch a bunch out of them.
Still working on those crappie lol

I don’t have a second type of fishing. Bass only. Any 5 of the following is good...largemouth, smallmouth, or spots. Anything else is by-catch and thrown back.

Big wintertime blue catfish. Catch 5 to 15lb cats and the fight is tough not to mention the sweet fillets.
Walleye, we have a great population up here at Meredith. Nothing cleans up and eats better.

I lump all 3 main bass species together since you can catch most of them on any given cast around where I fish.
Next would definitely be crappie. Specifically doodle socking in <1' of water in the springtime

LMB is number #1 because they will hit lures --
#2 , Halibut in Alaska ( 100+ lbs on Big'un Grubs using 16oz lead heads down to 200feet of water , crazy FUN )
#3 , Ling cod in Alaska , up to 50lbs , using the same jigs --- vicious fighters
#4 , Catfish at Clear Lake , Calif , one after the other --- in the fall , 5 to 20 lbs until your worn out
#5 , Cutthroat ,Rainbow and Brown Trout in Montana ( Yellowstone Lake , Lake Henry , Madison River ) ( Be careful of the Grizzlies !!! )
If you have never fished in Alaska , it's a " bucket list " item for sure . Amazing scenery , crazy good fishing and some really good eating . If I had unlimited money , I would go every year . Nothing beats a 100lb Halibut slamming a jig on slack tide ---- rip the rods out of your hands if your not paying attention. The lodge I stay at has it's record 345lb Halibut , took 6 hours to bring it in .

Actually smallies and spots come 1,2. Then largemouth, stripers, white bass and walleye.
And carp-for the fight.

Nothing like sight fishing for red fish in the marsh followed by an epic fight and a delicious meal.

Tarpon for the jolt on the strike.
Snook on bass tackle is a blast.
Bone fish... because they aren't easy to catch. Like fishing for bass at Fork. If you catch one good one, its a great day.
