Media Bass

Media Bass - 10/08/19 10:09 PM

While I was fishing Sam Rayburn this weekend I encountered some very nice anglers that were fishing the Media tournament. In addition I encountered some of the most rude anglers that I have ever seen. Boats flying by with in a casts distance when they had hundreds of yards to avoid me. I also had three different boats surround me when they saw me catch a fish. Some boats kept a reasonable distance but it seemed others were there just to try to intimidate you into leaving the location. I could hit any of the boats with a decent cast and often threw right in front of their boat. It didn't seem to make them any difference as they just kept fishing our space. I had a few choice words for a couple of them but they never looked at me or said anything and just kept fishing. I guess this is the norm now but it really does leave a sour taste in your mouth when this happens. I can only imagine what they would do if the shoe was on the other foot. The I'm allowed to do this but don't ever do it to me attitude seems to prevail with the hotrods that think they are better than everyone else.

I had a great experience and met some great folks including the media founder. Had no issue with other boats and also received some really quick help when my motor quit on me. Best part was being able to compete against guys from other states. Looking forward to next year.

Got to ask. How do you know they were all Media fisherman? There are plenty of rude fisherman on Rayburn that don’t fish tournaments. For that matter on most lakes.

Heck any lake, I even try to talk to guys that get too close, many won't say anything. Kinda weird, to me it means they know they are in the wrong.

It is not just tournament fishermen.

I do know that these teams were from Media as I could see them blasting off from Jackson Hill Marina each morning. I probably should not have singled out Media as it just happened to be the Club that was fishing that weekend. I even have several friends that fish Media and they all are good guys. My point is that it only takes a few "hot dogs" to tarnish the reputation of the bass fishermen no matter what club they are in. The rude ones that I run across that are just fun fishing are normally given a pass by me as I believe that most of their actions are because they just don't know any better. Maybe I expect to much, but if you are fishing a tournament you should know better in my opinion.

Unfortunately that stuff happens everywhere. We were out graphing an area last weekend and had a guy come right in and cut us off. He dropped is TM and went to fishing while looking the other way. We already had his pile marked, so it wasn't a big deal. We just hammered down and went to the next point. Had one guy keep following us around fishing the areas we were graphing. Guess he figured we knew good areas to look.

What do you expect? Professionals like scott Canterbury do it to win an AOY just trickles down from there.

Sad, but true.

A boat captain pulled up on me at Ray Roberts two weekends ago with high school anglers fishing a tournament. They fished the small brush pile I was on like I wasn't even there. No one said hello, no one asked if I would share, not a word.

Something similar happened to me on Fork while I was fishing a tournament. Some recreational anglers drove right over a school of fish. I was catching them every cast on an 8XD and they idled over top of them while I was actively casting and started fishing. They knew exactly what they were doing and were less than half a cast away. In that situation I was the competitor and the three guys were fun fishing.

I didn't confront anyone in either scenario. I ended up winning the club tournament on Fork anyway. No matter what I could do or say, some people will just be rude. They are past the point where their parents could have taught them differently. I'm sure I'm guilty of doing somethings that someone else wouldn't appreciate. It's usually not worth the confrontation.

Well don't go out there this weekend. It's the big high school event plus a Sealy big bass fall open. It'll be cut off city haha

Next time just fire up the big engine and go in circles for a little while lol. Tell them you're stirring up the fish.

Just kidding...it happens to everyone especially if you're catching fish. Just have to out fish them and try not to show them what you're using. Very unsportsman-like if you ask me.

It's not much h different even during the week now. Seems like as soon as you catch a fish a boat will appear out of no where and do a drive by while reaching up to hit mark on their graph. I may or may not have accidentally bounced a 1 ounce worm weight off the side of a boat in the past when I was younger and they get to close to me while fishing. And if you cast over their boat make sure you using a lead weight in case they cut your line you dont loose a 6.00 tungsten weight. gumshoe

You know in the 60 plus years i been fishing out of a boat i have never had a person sling a weight at my boat.
I have seen confrontations on the water but no one ever tossed a weight or bait at another boat.
Just a lot of expletives.
Hell i am just as guilty as the next guy about getting to close. It happens. Some areas will hold fish in a spot on{ a spot.}
If you are not fishing that spot i am going to hit it. To be clear i am not going to cut you off. But i will wait for my chance.

What?!!!! Say it ain’t so! You ain’t never had a trap thrown at ya, a weight, a ZaraSpook? C’MON!

I DARE someone to throw something at me. Honest. I bet they’d have their little pinky ring stuck on their broken hands for a few weeks. Haha.

.....as many times as I have read where someone “chunked at a boat”, it should be a regular occurrence. roflmao

(waits patiently for the guy or guys to come on here and start talking about brandishing their firearms for "fishing violations")
