Trolling Motor Talk - 10/03/19 03:59 PM

Recently upgraded to a Minn Kota Fortrex 80lb on my 95 Skeeter. Interested to hear what everyone else is running currently.

That'll do just fine for that boat. Most guys upgrading to atleast an ultrex nowadays

80lb Ultrex. From an 80lb Fortrex. Ain’t NEVA GOIN’ BACK!

The power steering and spot lock is the reason why.

Garmin Force. From an 80# Fortrex. Will literally run circles around the Fortrex. Built like a tank, and has all the bells and whistles, and then some.

Garmin Force 50". Heck I haven't even learned all the stuff this work horse will do. Best thing I've done to a boat in years!

Cheers, cheers

Green apple vs red apple
Both apples.

The Lowrance should be the better of them all.

Re: Trolling Motor Talk - 10/04/19 09:10 PM

I have a newer Fortrex that someone took off when they got the Ultrex and it works great. Before I upgrade again, I have to upgrade my old boat, the accessories are already worth more than the boat and motor grin 92 Javelin/150 Johnson Fast Strike going strong! After some study, I will probably go all Garmin on my next boat but going to give them a year or so to work out bugs. I have Garmin graphs now and like them but need newer models so everything can talk.

What do you base that statement on? Have you run either one of the new ones?

I'm using a 80# Foretrax on my 188 Ranger and it does good, can't justify the high dollar price of the new models no matter how good the spot lock is as long as the Foretrax works. The price's have gone out of sight for a retired guy.

112 Ultrex with 45” shaft. I’m not married to the brand but spot lock rocks!

That I don't know. It replaced a 109 MG Beast, 36v. Now I run 24v with 2 batteries and get the same speed and run time with 1 less battery and weight.. I also really enjoy the wireless foot control.

Cheers, cheers

MotorGuide is the way to go. Every Minn Kota I've had is a hunk of [censored].

Had a MotorGuide on a '97 Stratos. To the day sold in 2015 that trolling motor was the one thing that never gave an issue. New boat has a Minn Kota, and it's the only hunk of [censored] on the boat that DOES give issues!

Come to think of it.....I’ve had four minn kotas. All broke down. But, I STILL PREFER THEM, cause when they aren’t broke, they ARE better than anything else I’ve owned.

I will buy a Lowrance next though. When this Ultrex goes out of warranty....I’ll sell it. Next April.

So all we need now is for motorguide to offer a line graphs and sonars, and a hummingbird trolling motor.

My Garmin will be here in 3 weeks and I may throw a party when I get to pull that noisy, breaking down piece of junk off my boat that I have now.

I had better luck with motorguide as well.

The Ultrex is essentially a "Humminbird trolling motor"
