US made baits - 09/19/19 05:51 PM

The tariff thread got me thinking to how many US based baits I use. So what is everyone's favorite lure made in the USA?

Gary Yamamoto Senko! Made in USA! Most, if not all, of my wire baits...spinners, buzz, chatter, A-rig are custom made by Yeah Baby! Baits. I hand pour and inject 90% of my own plastics. Hooks are Tokar, weights are probably Chinese tungsten. Almost all my cranks are CostaRica or Finland. My lines are USA and Japanese. My reels are Japanese and Korean. Rods are USA, JDM, and China (Academy).

Actually, aside from some cheapo rods....I have very little Chinese fodder in my boat.

I wouldn't assume that so quickly. They just invested significantly in their production facility in Tulsa just prior to the acquisition.

To the OP, there are many great products made both here and abroad. Local companies I personally like are Gene Larew, Smashtech Swimbaits and Revenge baits but there are many other good ones. Most of the better quality rods and reels seem to come from overseas and form what I've been told on the rod side that is for quality and not just price.

Well dang... they always had a proud "Made in the USA" thing on the package too. Deals get made though I understand.

Not sure if there are many hardbaits being made in the states anymore. Plenty of plastics, jigs, spinners, etc

I think the River2Sea crankbaits/topwater production is still in California.
Just don’t make any of my favorites.

Interesting. I tried buying some zoom plastics last year and the local fishing store said they had been on backorder for a while and they were coming from some asian country.

I try to support and use USA/TX local products.Salt and Freshwater lures :

Freshwater: No real favorites but Zoom, Netbait, Xcite, Grandebass, etc.

Saltwater: Down South, Marker 54, Chickenboy, Slayer Inc.

I believe all these brands are produced in the good ol US

Pretty sure big bite baits produces a ton of plastics for several companies including their own line here in the US

Re: US made baits - 09/21/19 07:49 PM

Most soft plastics are still made in the US. There are several big injectors that make baits for others.
The guys down in Many La. do baits for a lot of them.

Probably forgot to place their order. Or they wanted to sell you something close for 3-4x the price.

Re: US made baits - 09/21/19 09:51 PM

Zoom does not sell direct to smaller retailers. You have to go through a middle man(company) so to speak.

I bought some homemade Jigs from one of the best jig makers in the USA! Matthew Carroll aka Jigum! God has called him home. Still use them today! I have one pack that I will never open! Keeping them as a "Keep Sake"! thumb

Mike Siebert makes my favorite jigs in the good ol' USA. He also has great prices on Rage Tail soft plastics & makes an incredible Ned head with an Owner hook.

Re: US made baits - 09/27/19 10:27 PM

Soft plastics - Zoom, Yamamoto, Roboworm.
Hard baits - as someone else said, it's hard to find any that are still USA-made.
Jigs - don't throw them much, but when I do, I try to find some that are high quality, hand tied and made in the USA (even then, they may have foreign components, esp. hooks)

Re: US made baits - 09/28/19 02:07 PM

I love America. I always used to put emphasis on “buying USA”. Nothing has changed for my love of the USA but when Chevys get manufactured in other countries and Toyotas are manufactured in the USA and rods are assembled in the USA but with components made in other countries.......it honestly loses the importance(to me) to make “made in the USA” my deciding factor for purchases anymore. We export a ton, our economy is thriving, unemployment is low(and would be way lower if everyone actually WANTED a job). Supporting our economy 1st is important but honestly it’s become so convoluted as to “where it’s made” that I don’t worry about this much anymore. I personally put emphasis on supporting the smaller local business owner. I don’t concern myself with where the products they sell are manufactured but I like to support the local “mom & pop” business’s as opposed to a big corporate chain store where more of the money leaves the local area...... when possible. Just me.
