Lake Gilmer

Lake Gilmer - 09/04/19 11:39 PM

Let me save everyone a trip to Lake Gilmer. The gates at both ramps have been closed / locked until further notice. The City of Gilmer is reporting the lake's level is being dropped four to five feet for spillway repairs.

Don't know about the repairs, but I'm wondering how long will it take Mother Nature to get the lake's level back up?

Yeah my buddy posted several pics on FB of all the hazards that people normally run over the top of and probably never knew were there! bolt

Lol, my wife read me that article and I came here to update this thread. We closed the drain valve last week and contractors were there Friday, think the rain ran em out, repairs should start tomorrow. Expected to take 1-2 weeks. Ramps will remain closed until water comes up.

I heard a bunch of them are thinking about moving to Fork, gets boring for them not have boats run around all day.

I'd definitely use the left side and take it easy. I wouldn't of opened it but it came from above...

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/16/19 10:05 AM

I would highly suggest idol only right now. Best I can remember from before the lake filling up, the ramps go out a pretty good bit, I believe the same distance on each side but I would still be careful. There is stuff showing that hasn't been seen since the early 2000's if not earlier. I am quite sure that there is stuff now that is just under the water that normally is not an issue hence idling everywhere. Looking at the lake which I did yesterday, it is somewhere around 6 feet low.

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/16/19 01:17 PM

It's closer to 10ft low, the ramp supposedly goes out as far as the back of the floating dock, which was setting on bottom before this last rain, may still be.

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/17/19 03:13 PM

Has anyone put a 21ft bass boat on it yet , I'm concerned about falling off the end of the ramp ?
Posted By: GTrigg

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/18/19 12:49 AM

There's been plenty of empty 20' and 21' boat trailers parked in the lot the past two days, so doesn't appear to be a problem. I understand there's a tournament out there Saturday.

The ramp actually goes out father than alot of folks realize.

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/18/19 01:57 PM

Thanks for the info guys . Juan posted this am , tournament is canceled , bc of hazardous water levels , lake is very dangerous , some guys are trying to run it .

Re: Lake Gilmer - 10/18/19 03:19 PM

Ramp is slick, I would not have pulled my Phoenix boat & trailer out without 4-wheel drive.

Think I'll load up the ol' Buster boat and check out Mountain Creek. I can hand launch it anywhere.
