Lower Unit Plug

Lower Unit Plug - 08/03/19 03:56 PM

I have a stubborn plug on the upper part of my lower unit. It is on a Yahama sho 250. I need to remove it to drain and add the lower unit oil.
Besides a big screwdriver, is there a tool adaptor or socket that can remove it without stripping the face?
Also, I've heard you can replace it with a plug that has a hex fitting instead of a screwdriver.
Thanks.

Need to use an impact screwdriver! That's what I had to use. Worked great.

snap on makes a heavy duty screw driver with a fat tip to fit the bigger slot in the plug. its made for that and works great

Impact screw driver. My entire life I have never understood why a Phillips Head screw was and still is used by manufacturers for these lower unit plugs.

Shouldn’t have to be screwed in that tight...seems like that would defeat the purpose of the o ring / gasket ...
