I'd never say that, since people all make mistakes. I do hope everyone was ok. I have witnessed many almost big mistakes and some by very experienced driver's. Could have lost control, after hitting a wave, who knows. Could have just not been paying attention.

Re: Who ran aground on Cedar Creek - 07/29/19 05:56 PM

I had a buddy do that with his brand new (at the time) Z18. He was coming to pick me up at the ramp. Took him, me, and two others (when they stopped laughing) to shove it back into the lake. His skeg was in the dirt! Lol. He said his hot foot stuck. But....it never happened before or after that. Beer beaching.

Re: Who ran aground on Cedar Creek - 07/30/19 08:23 PM

I heard he was running at night and didn't see/know the island was there. No major injuries but the boat was supposedly totaled.
Posted By: Razorback

Re: Who ran aground on Cedar Creek - 07/30/19 08:49 PM

Why do you run an area that you don't know at night? I never run anywhere at night that I haven't run during the day. I make sure my GPS trails don't come within a few yards of anything I might hit at night. That means running in the middle a lot of the time, then idling to docks, the bank, timber, etc.
Posted By: JimBridger

Re: Who ran aground on Cedar Creek - 07/30/19 09:12 PM

Glad to here there were no serious injuries. People do make mistakes, but speed usually compounds them.
If it was at night as suggested, going fast is just crazy.

your depth perception can be off at night....almost hit a small island like this years ago and I could have sworn I was 200 yards further out in the lake than I was...

Re: Who ran aground on Cedar Creek - 07/31/19 04:18 PM

It’s my dads boat, his friend was driving and got it on plane with out the graph booted up yet and hit the island at night. Completely dumb but good people make mistakes sometimes. Luckily no one was hurt badly, he got a few stitches in his forehead and the driver got a few bruises. The boat on the other hand is a tank, when I heard about it I thought for sure total loss. I went and assessed the damage after it was put on the trailer yesterday and was amazed. Steering wheel is bent from impact, rub rail on front left is ripped out, and fell coat is damaged on the front left. No gouges or stress cracks on the hull at all, no ding in the prop, no wobble in the prop shaft, no cracks in transom, tilt and trim works fine and power poles as well. Hell the batteries were still sitting in their trays, truly amazing. It’s going to Randy Qualls to be checked out completely so will know more then, but everyone was truly lucky could have been much worse.

Very Lucky is right but you would think as far up on dry land someone was moving at a pretty good pace in the dark. I wished you would have video it getting back in the water

Stuff happens at night even when one knows the body of water. I took this picture at Guntersville a few years ago. Another island deal.

c'mon man, you can't come on here and tell the haters that it was simply a mistake...….
Expand your story - it was two drunk guys trying to get their boat to 109mph , again, with no life jackets, no kill swithches and two girls flashed their boobs at them and they lost focus for a moment, jumping two wave runners, three pontoon boats before they ended up landing on Gilligans Island...…

Serioiusly, glad they were ok!

Never thought much about running at night with a good GPS and knowledge of the lake until you run up on someone dead in the water with no lights. Slow down.
