What part is broken? Is it just the rope, or is the rod/release mechanism broken? Really need more info to provide the best answer. At one point on an old TM I tied half hitches on either side of the catch release and looped the pull rope through anithe hitch in the middle because a piece of plastic broke off.

I just bought new rope from Home Depot after mine left me stranded and made sure I bought 2 of them and sealed the ends with a lighter. Next time it breaks (and it will), I'll have a spare.

You can use plastic coated braided cable in lieu of the rope...more durable, the sun rots rope...
Or just get one of these and be done with it. You won't have to worry about a broken cable again.

Lawn mower pull start rope is a lot tougher than other rope types. If the break is out past the hole that it goes through to the release mechanism and you have room just tie a surgeons knot using the remaining pull rope.

THANKS FOR HELP. I may go the paracord route. Saw youtube vid of guy getting coated 1/8 steel cable and using that, cost about 4$ .
