Garmin GPS

Garmin GPS - 06/21/19 11:41 PM

I have a Garmin 7612 with added external antenna. It works great when traveling at high speeds, but jumps around when holding on a spot, such as an offshore ledge. The map does not always show your exact position according to true North. Seems to work much better when boat is moving in one direction instead of sitting still. The antenna has a clear view of the sky.
Any recommendations on settings, or resolving this problem?

Mine does the same. Never seen a GPS that doesn't

Not sure what antenna you have, but if it’s an external GPS, then it’s not made showing your heading. GPS antennas only show your heading based off of movement.

It sounds like what you’re looking for is a heading sensor, to show the direction your boat is facing, even while sitting still.

Garmin has the Steadycast, which is a pretty good one. You can find it for less than $150.
